My twins were just born on the 20th at 36.3 weeks.

They've only been home for 2 days.

Julian is my little quiet one, but Presten.. He cries so much. I think he gets an upset belly. He Also has trouble with feedings. He went to a special NICU, and they didn't let him use the bottle I wanted (playtex nurser) for sanitation reasons, so he used the standard nipple screw on to the RTF bottle. When He eats, he has A lot of trouble getting a good sucking motion, and he will gulp it down in big sucks when he does, seemly causing more airbubbles. Whereas Julian does the slow, small sucking motion.

What can I do to help presten with sucking and gas? I'm at a loss, and he's so miserable!

Can you try a Dr. Brown's bottle? That's what we used and we really liked it. I hope he stops crying soon.

Thank you for the suggestion, I got one of the Dr. Brown's Natural flow bottles yesterday but the nipple just goes too fast for him :(

I agree with Aimee, to possibly try a bottle change and maybe some Mylicon/gas drops before or after feedings. Good luck and hang in there!

Dr. Brown makes a preemie nipple, maybe you could try that. I agree with pp mylicon drops too.

hugs to you! I agree with PP...we changed to dr. brown's after trying every other bottle and it has worked magically for us! Mylicon also is a life saver with our little boy Ryan! We also have to feed them sitting up...
GL! I hope it gets better for you soon!

Yep, we did the Dr. Brown's with the preemie nipple and put Mylicon in each bottle to help with the gas bubbles. Maybe if you try to burp him more frequently that might help as well as trying to do a bicycle motion with his legs to help work the gas out. I am sorry that he is so uncomfortable. I might also bring it up to the Ped.

wellements gripe water is a miracle. gas drops can go in bottles too - especially helpful if you are mixing formula and want to get out the air bubbles.

keep trying different nipples/bottles. we really, really struggled with finding the right nipples at different stages. the girls both had pyloric stenosis and BAD reflux, so we went thru alot. there are so many different kinds of nipples. i stuck w/ one type of bottle and then went to target/bru/etc and bought every different kind of nipple available. we ended up using most of them at one phase or another.

i hope you are doing ok. my boys were really gassy and would cry when they would eat sometimes. I switched formulas from enfamil lipil to similac sensitive. it is broken down more for their little tummies. it has helped with the gas and with the sleeping. they sleep longer (they were eating every 2 hours in the night and grunting due to gas) I agree that you should burp him more. I use the avent bottles with the slow flow nipple. hope you find the solution
ps the mylicon drops didnt make a big difference for them

I completely agree with PP's about the Dr. Brown's bottles. . .My DS is very gassy and the Dr. Brown's with the preemie nipples, along with adding Mylicon right into his bottles helps tremendously!! Also, burping him more frequently helps too. . .Good Luck!!

P.S. My DS also has reflux and a cradle swing was a life saver for us before we got him on meds. Both my babies LOVE the swing!! Do whatever it takes to make them comfortable and keep your sanity. . .
