My son is very fussy. He has HORRIBLE smelling gas. He was originally on Similac Neosure since he's a preemie. That formula was terrible. He was pooping all the time plus was straining like he had to poop all the time. The doc tested him for GERD/acid reflux. It was negative. So, the doc switched him to Similac Alimentum. I would say he's marginally better. Still fussy and gassy but seemed to poop/strain less.

He recently bumped up to 4 oz a feeding. Now, he seems to be getting worse.....more poop and more gas.

Should we switch formula again? The doc doesn't seemed too concerned but she's not the one up in the middle of the night :)

My daughter (his twin) is still on the neosure and so easy!!!

    Ideas?

Our babies started getting super gassy about the same age. Our Pedi says that it's due to the development of their digestion. They still have so much gas. They said we could try mylicone, but in the PDR it says may not be safe with colick babies, but doesn't say why.

I would ask your dr. for more of an explanation if your still concerned.

Hope your baby is feeling better soon!

my boys were terribly gassy at that age and pooped constantly! We used mylicon drops like no tomorrow, a lot of burping, put them on their tummies, swaddled and put in swing with paci. My one DS had it worse than the other. And basically what our pediatrician would say is "if you drank that much fluid around the clock you'd be gassy too!" Good luck to you :)

I would put a drop of Mylicon in every one of their bottles (they can have up to 12 doses in one day) and that really cut down on the gas for us. I would not change the formula unless advised to do so by your pedi. Good luck!

We tried the mylecon and it didn't work. So, we switched to Similac Sensitive b/c it is lactose free. My girls both did so much better on it. They are still drinking it...

Alimentum is probably the easiest formula to digest (and one of the most expensive one), so I don't think changing would be any help. You can try mylicon drops or gripe water (neither worked for us but heck).

I had hte same problem with mine. My DS only pooped once every 3 or 4 days! I was told that changing formulas can make the problem worse but we changed ours quite a bit for DS and saw no improvement. We used to add medication to their bottles so they would poop and that worked. Be reassured that once they start solids, they´ll be pooping several times a day! :D
