My girls are almost six wks(41 wks gestational age) old now and for the past couple of weeks its been crying back and forth all hours of the night. I am breast feeding and other than my other 2 kids 10 and 7 and my DH I dont have any help with them. The closest family is 1400 miles away. I am so tired and need sleep any suggestions? Any one try coliccalm is it worth the high price or is there something I can get at babies R Us? Any good tip appreciated! The swing only works so so. Thanks ( you can see by my typos I am worn out!!)

We tried a lot of different things and there was no rhyme or reason as to what worked. Sometimes the vibrating chair, a ride in the car, holding them laying wiht their bellies on our forearms and walking around. We also tried Nutramigen. It worked for a day and then my girls just flat out refused to eat if that was their only choice. The good news is that it lasted about 3 weeks and then they were much better. We got to the point where the pedi told us to change diapers, feed them, make sure they were ok and then put them down in the crib and walk away. We had to do it to gain some sanity. It's not so much CIO as it is "you're going to cry if I hold you or not, so I have to take a break."

Good luck and hang in there momma. You're in South FL, right?

I agree..we tried a lot of things. Swaddling with the miracle blanket and using the white noise machine is what worked for us. I also had to set the baby down and walk away, maybe take a shower....whatever it took to maintain my sanity at the time. It does get better. If there is anyone there that can help you, like a newborn care specialist or just a high school student who needs some work, whatever works for your budget. It's worth it to keep sane at this difficult time. Hang in there mamma!

A friend of mine recommended the sleep incline positioner. That worked for us. I picked it up at Babies R Us.

Sorry your lo's are suffering colic, it's not fun for them or you. Like everyone else says we didn't find a cure just different methods to try and soothe it. Sometimes nothing worked and we had to ride it out but we always knew that come 10pm the crying would stop and they would sleep.

We swaddled, rocked in dim lighting with no tv on, placed babba in swing to give tired arms a rest, gripe water and infacol drops. Both my girls were eventually diagnosed with reflux and the colicky babba has the silent type so no spittup, i wonder if she ever actually had colic? She could of just been crying because of the reflux. Maybe worth looking into whether your babbas have it too?

It probably feels neverending now but it does pass and you will survive the crying and the tiredness! Take care x

I'm not sure what the difference is between colic and the 6-8 week witching hour. When babies are about 6 weeks old, they start crying for no reason in the evening. Ours was from 6-9pm EVERY night. It's like when the clock struck 9 someone hit the off button. All we could do was rock them and hope they stopped crying. None of our usual tricks would work. We tried gas drops, but they didn't help. The good news is that it only lasted 2-3 weeks AND toward the end it wasn't every night. Hang in there and know you are not alone, a lot of us have gone through this!

Are they crying during the day too? Are you doing something different(laying them down in the crib?) at night, as opposed to the day?

I'm there too... almost 7 weeks and they are up and fussy 24/7. Libbey has reflux but now Josie is fussy too!

Mine were both colic too! :( I hear you, it does get better. The swing worked for mine sometimes, sometimes a sling, hiding them from the outside world.....sometimes walking up and down stairs or rocking them sideways in the breastfeed hold. Also we switched formula about this time to similac's alimentum which helped a lot too! (very expensive though:(
It does get easier and go away but it is tough when it happens. I am so sorry you are going through this:(

So sorry you are going through this. Morgan had it until she was about 4 months old!!!!! It felt like forever, and it would never end but it did, thankfully - just before I lost my mind!! We tried a lot of the things pps mentioned but unfortunately, nothing really worked. We also had to just make her comfortable and maybe twice a night, leave her to CIO. I know how stressful this must be and how hard it is to think that it will end - but it will. I hope some of the suggestions here work for you and the girls. Hang in there!!!!

Just wait, your girls will be 10 or 14 lb soon and you'll be wondering where the time went! The other thing I wanted to mention is sometimes just a change of environment would help. I would take BK outside and pace the driveway and she would finally go to sleep. We're in Pensacola, so the weather where you are should be about the same as here now and it's really nice at night.

Good luck and hang in there...it DOES end!
