Help! What do I buy a 6 1/2 year old girl?

My Goddaughter is 6 1/2 years old & I have no idea what to get her for Christmas. I've always gotten her a Madame Alexander doll or some other type of collectable but playable doll. I'm not sure if at this age she will still be excited by a doll. If you have girls this age do they still play with dolls? Is a doll a good idea? If not, can you suggest something? I want to spend about $50. She is an only child as well, so things that require other children to play won't get much use since there aren't really any other children her age on her street. Thanks for your help!

 

My oldest DD was 6 last week. She loves anything High School Musical, but that only works if your Goddaughter has seen the movies. My sister is getting her a kid's MP3 player and loading songs she knows Annie likes. I think the MP3 player was under $20. She can listen to what she wants w/o bothering the rest of us. She's also getting Twister Hopscotch, but again if there is no one to play with that might not work either.

I was going to get her the Crayola Glow Station, but decided it would cause problems with her sisters as it's more of a one person activity.

I would definitely see if you can get some clues from her mom. My girls are 5 and 1/2 and I always talk to the moms when they go for a birthday party because their interests are all over the map. My girls have never had much interest in dolls but they have a name and feeding time for each of their stuffed animals. They also like Scooby Doo where their same aged cousin loves Disney princesses and would be mortified by anything Scooby. If you're spending that much, I would definitely ask for some guidance.

 

Mine like dolls, dollhouse, baby and Barbie (no Bratz, no Hannah Montana). They will be 6 on Sunday. One particularly likes the doctor Barbie.

They also love books and jewelry, and coloring books.

 

Horses, my little pony, a bike or a scooter. maybe a big wheel or roller blades. Ask her Mom what she likes and is getting.

 

Ally likes Littlest Pet Shop and Polly Pocket stuff. She's LOVES Hannah Montana stuff even though she's never seen the show. Dress up clothes are still a big hit here too.

 

My 6 year old loves Hannah Montana (just the toys and music, she doesn't watch the show), Littlest Pet Shop, and any kind of craft/drawing supplies. She just got a Hannah Montana journal and pen at scouts as a grab bag gift and she loved it. She also likes Webkinz, books at her reading level, and jewelry. Kid friendly lipgloss is big in her first grade class right now. She has baby dolls, but has never really gotten into them.

 

When my niece was that age she liked the idea of her own credit card! LOL
So we got her a gift card to a store like walmart so she could go pick out her own gift and use her "credit card" all by herself. It was a hit!
But if you want an actual item, something she can unwrap that probably wont work for you!

P.S. - We put it in like a cute little purse, with a little chapstick and mirror
