This is my first time posting to this site, but I've been lurking for a hwile.

    We desparately need help!!!

DS is just miserable, despite every effort we're making. We asked the ped if we could alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen and they said yes, so we've been doing that. He seems to get more relief from the ibuprofen.

He already has his bottom teeth in (they came in when he was 5 mos old) and it wasn't nearly this bad, although there was a week that was pretty difficult and one night he cried for almost 3 hours. We used Tylenol then and it seemed to help.

But his top teeth are trying to come in and he's been crying/screaming/waking frequently for over a week now. Teething rings only seem to make matters worse. He hates it when we use Orajel, but it gives him temporary relief (we usually use it at night).

Our babies have been waking many times in the night for over 2 weeks now because they (and DH and I) had a stomach bug for a week and now this. And they don't just wake for a short time, it's usually 1-3 hours at a time

We're going to put the babies in separate rooms because we think Matthew wakes Megan up and then we have two babies to try to get to sleep at 1 or 2 or 3 am.

It's usually the hour or two before I can give him any more ibuprofen that's the worst! He's just in agony!!! Seriously, I though his tooth would have come through by now!

At his 6 month visit (first week of December) the doctor even said the upper teeth were bulging.

Can you offer any advice, words, tricks of the trade, experiences? I need to get some sleep and so do my babies!

Those top teeth are really tough coming in! It sounds like you are doing everything you can. Have you tried the teething tablets? I never had much luck with them, but some people swear by them. I hope they pop through soon and you and your babies get some relief...and sleep! :hug99:

Oh, we are teething too ... and mine are up and up and up at night for long periods of time too. And they only want MOMMY! When my husband picks them up they only scream harder. Very frustrating for all involved since there is only one of me (a very tired and frustrated one) and two of them.

I haven't tried these things yet ... but someone mentioned giving them a frozen wet washcloth to chew on ... or there are those teething things that you put baby food in ... probably too messy for the crib and I don't know how old your babies are ... ours are just now starting rice cereal so those are out for us. There are these things called RaZBabies that are these teething pacifiers that I may order online. I don't know the link, but if you google them, I'll bet you will find it. Someone also mentioned teething tabs? I think they are some sort of numbing medication. Again, so sorry I am not really being much help b/c I don't even know what these are ... again, when I have time, I plan to google them or ask the ped.

What I HAVE been doing, which I HATE ... is regressing to letting my Hannah sleep in the swing ... she is the poorer sleeper. And, I have gone back to swaddling both Meredith & Hannah so that they aren't constantly trying to chew on their hands and waking themselves up. They have been in the cribs for months now but it is the only way we can all get some sleep ...

Good luck ... sorry, wish I could help more ... just be glad they are old enough for Ibuprofen ... we are still too young =( Two more weeks! Unless they go by adjusted age?? Then, 7 more weeks.

I agree with Becky. Many people swear by those teething tablets. We found that Ibuprofen worked best for us and sometimes just a bottle of cool water for them to chew and suck on. :hug99: I hope they both are feeling better soon.

Welcome to FY and TS! :wavey:

Jackson's top teeth are coming in, too. I thought the bottom ones were rough, but these are SO much worse!!

    :hug99:

The only thing that I can offer that no one has mentioned is to let him suck on a cold, wet wash cloth. The coolness & texture seem to offer temporarily relief for Jack.

    We love teething tabs, too!!!

I would check with your ped and based on thier weight how much Tylenol you are allowed to give, because I wasn't giving mine enough and it really wasn't doing anything. Once we got that straightened out things were better at night. During the day I give them frozen peaches in their mesh feeders and they just go to town on them it helps them everytime. We bought the Sassy mesh feeders because they are impossible for the babies to open I've heard some are very easy to open. Like pp said maybe the teething tablets will work for you, we haven't gotten to the point where the Tylenol and Ibuprofin hasn't worked yet. Good luck I hope you get some relief soon.

My Jackson is getting his top right now and they do seem worse than his bottom. Lily just got her bottom two and had a terrible time. I tried the wet washclothes and also have more luck with the Motrin than tylenol. I have also been using the mesh feeders and gumming on something, even bread, seems to help a bit.

As far as splitting them up for sleep, we debated for months and finally separated ours at night (they have always napped in different rooms) and in the two weeks since we put them in different rooms at night they have STTN almost consistently. I wish we would have separated them earliler.

Oh yeah, Jack and Lily are 7 months now and I don't know how old yours are but I do feed them some bites of yobaby yogurt from the fridge and the coolness of it seems to help.

    HTH,
    Amy

    Poor baby. and poor mommy!
we've got top ones bulging as well and lots of crankiness. My girls love the teething tablets and they do seem to calm them a bit (maybe it's just the sweetness!)

my new discover is stalks of celery, cold from the fridge. They've only got two bottom teeth so i'm not worried about them getting a real bite and choking, but they love to gnaw on and rub them over their gums.

i also use the munchkin mesh feeders filled with frozen mango, or peach or canned pear (bananas get to be a real pain to try and clean out)

    good luck!

Welcome! I'm glad you finally posted :) We didn't really have any trouble with teething, so I don't have any helpful tidbits to offer, but I did want to welcome you and tell you that I hope you find some relief (for them and YOU) soon! hang in there!

    Hi friend!

Thank you all so much for responding! I need to figure out how to add a siggy to my posts....

My babies are 7 mos old. DS got his first teeth when he was 5 mos and DD shortly thereafter.

We seem (and i know how uncertain that can be!) to have turned a bit of a corner. DS woke 2x last night, but he ate his bottle and pretty much went back to sleep after that. He still hates the taste of Motrin/ibuprofen (do they have grape flavored?), but I figured out that if I put it in a dropper rather than the plunger they provide and sneak it in while he's eating his bottle, he doesn't spit it all out! Thank goodness!

Ahmerl - thanks for letting me know how yhour babies did when you put them in separate rooms. I just have a strong feeling they will both sleep better, although frequently they do stay sleeping when the other is crying. But last night, DD woke each time shortly after I finished feeding DS (they both woke twice in the night). So I'll have to tell DH about your results and hopefully he'll be more motivated to help me move stuffout of the extra bedroom/office so we can make it into DD's nursery.

This morning DS was smiling at me when I went to get him out of his crib! What a joy :)
