Help! My identical twin boys were doing so good. They began sleeping through the night at around 4 months and were doing awesome. Now in the past week and a half they have been waking up 2-3 times a night. I sleep in the room across from them. I can hear them sometimes just awake and rustling around, but not crying. When they do make sounds, they are extremely hungry. I feed them and they go right back to sleep. They are drinking about 7 oz at night. During the day, they are starting to get less interested in formula. They have just started eating solid foods, baby food. I have been offering them baby food a couple times a day. They act like they really want to eat, but don't eat alot. They also are having trouble getting to sleep during the day. They have no teeth yet. What do I do? I would let them cry it out, but they seem super hungry in the middle of the night.

How much formula are they taking during the day and how much solid food? It sounds as if they arent eating enough during the day and are making up for it at night. What I did with mine at that age was make a small bottle of formula and offered it after the solid meals. DD would take almost a full bottle (7oz) as she wasnt so keen on solids. She dropped it eventually though. Here´s my schedule to give you an idea, though mine are older:

8am - 7 or 8oz bottle with cereal (they don´t have much appetite for breakfast!)
    11am - mid-morning snack (3oz bottle)
    1.30pm - veg & meat/fish puree
    4.30pm - fruit puree
    8pm - 9oz bottle with cereal

Maybe you could try offering the formula in sippy cups and see if they´ll take it that way? Could the be bored with the taste of the milk I wonder? If that fails, try offering the food again after 2-3 hours and see if they eat.

I hope they sttn again for you very soon! GL & KUP!

If they seem super hungry in the middle of the night, it's probably because they are. Another reason could be that they are starting to teethe (even though they may not be visible to you right now) or they have reached a developmental milestone that keeps them occupied. Here is my schedule:

8:00 AM - Oatmeal (eggs, toast, bagels, etc) & 4oz.
Noon - Stage 3 (or turkey, chicken, fruits, vegtables, etc) & 4oz
5 PM - Stage 3 Dinner (or any variety as mentioned above) & 4oz
    7 PM - 8oz & Bed

So, that is solids 3x daily and about 20oz. Of course, you could try giving them water or water/juice in between meals with a small snack too.

Sometimes it is trial & error to get things going on a schedule that works for YOU and the babies. As far as formula intake goes, as long as they don't seem dehydrated, then they are probably okay. Do they have wet diapers during the day?

STTN becomes a challenge sometimes just when things seem to be going well. Just hang in there!

If nothing works out, I would probably contact your pedi and discuss with her about it.

Maybe it is a growth spurt and they will go back to sleeping soon. Either that or maybe they are getting used to have solids and once they have adjusted to that they will go back to sleeping more.

How long have they been on solids? Did the night waking start with the introduction of solids? I would cut out one of the solids feedings and offer formula instead and see if that helps increase the amount of formula during the day. I also would continue to night feed if they are hungry.

They could also be teething. You can try Tylenol before they go to bed or some Motrin if you get the okay from your Ped since they are over 6 months. I hope you get some sleep tonight.

thank you for the suggestions. we just started solid foods last week. we had been doing just one meal a day, but i tried offering more the last couple days. they just started showing interest in food, before they would not swallow. i will keep you all posted. i kept them up an hour later and gave one extra bottle. so far (it is ten o'clock) each twin has woken up once crying. they seemed uncomfortable, not hungry. i held them for a few minutes and put them back to bed. it could be teething?

Babies go through a 6 month growing spirt and can wake up in the middle of the night during that time because they do need more calories and it can be uncomfertable. My kids woke up for about a week or so around that time. Stick to your routine as much as you can (and let them eat if they are hungry). I would suggest that things will balance out agian (just my thoughts).
