We've been doing cereal once or twice a day since about 4 months. Girls love it. Now at 6 months, this week was our first attempt at veggies. Quinn loved 'em. Lexia gagged and everytime it touched her tongue made the "yucky" face. I tried to mix a tiny bit with her cereal to see if that helped--she got it down but wasn't impressed.

Do you think I should keep introducing other veggies to her and then go back to the carrots and squash?? I thought these would be the tastier ones, peas and beans looked disgusting. Did anyone buy different brands and find their kids preferred one brand to another?? I don't want to bust out the fruit yet in case she decides to skip the veggies all together. I thought they'd just eat it up.. Sigh. At least they both slept through the night last night:)

My girls preferred homemade baby food as opposed to the jarred kind. Also, K refused a lot of food the first few times. It took about 5 times to get the hang of the new taste/texture. She gagged a lot in the beginning and now gobbles up almost everything!

Everytime we offer a new food, S doesn't gag, necessarily, but makes a disgusted face. We do the new food for 3 days in a row for allergies & by the end he seems to come around. They like sweet potatoes, carrots & will be trying green beans later in the week. IMO, I'd do the same veggie for a couple of days as they seem to get used to it.

I split one container between the two of them, so when Twinkette only takes a couple of bites, then Twinkie can finish the rest. I always give her a taste, and she will take more some feedings and less at others but he gulps down whatever I give them. I think at this age it is more important to just give them some for taste and practice--even if all they do is to get it on their tongue--than to worry about how much they are eating.

Us, too. I do think 1 of my babies likes the veggies warm while the other likes them cooler- 1 seems to be very into it, while the other lags so I do 2 spoonfuls for 1; then 1 for the other. Then he'll start getting into it, so I flip it.

My boys do that w some food too. I just add a bit of cereal to it and they'll eat anything like that! Hope that helps :) The boys hated avocado mashed but love it cubed... strange!!

    Thanks girls :)

Ok so I'll keep with the carrots for 3 days and hope she decides to like it, then reintroduce the squash. Maybe move onto sweet potato next. And I guess if the jarred stuff isn't a hit, I'll make some homeade and try that.

Honestly, I tried the jarred carrots and it almost made me gag!

It can take up to 10 offerings of a food before a baby will accept it, so hang in there and keep trying. It won't hurt to try something different or mixing it with something else (like the cereal you tried). Right now it's more about experimenting with flavors and learning how to eat off a spoon, than about nutrition! :)

I would just hang in there & keep offering them. Hopefully, she will like them sooner or later!

I ditto the sweet potatoes - that was (and still is) a favorite around our house! I DID find that they liked certain kinds better than others - they didn't really like Earth's Best stuff at all, but did like Gerber. I found that to be true with lots of different kinds - they really liked everything that was in those bag things - can't remember who made them. Also, we tried to do vegetables first and they weren't big fans and started fruits instead and then went back to veggies and they did fine. I think giving them something yummy at first helped them get used to eating off a spoon and eating solids in general. They eat vegetables great now, especially peas, green beans and carrots, and they were never huge fans of them (although they would eat them) with baby food so I really don't think a vegetable baby food aversion means they are always going to be anti-veggie!

My DD has always been quite picky and would actually gag with most veggies. She did this with straight cereal too. When we got to the point where DS was taking things and she wasn't we gave up and went on to fruit, which she loves. I found that my trick to getting the veggies in her is to mix a little pears or apples with whichever veggie I am feeding her and then she will take it! I figure as long as she eats it, who cares if its a mixture. Once we introduced yogurt I found that this is also a way to get her to eat the veggies. She will eat anything as long as it is mixed with plain yogurt! Good luck and keep trying :)

we were told to introduce the veggies the same one for 3 days up to 7 days to avoid allergies and to see if they just genuinely don't like it.

with mine i tried peas first - YUCK
    carrots - YUCK but doable
    sweet potatoes - SUCCESS
    sweet potatoes w/chicken - SUCCESS

all beechnut jarred food too by the way.

oh and for each and every feed the boys will hesitate that first bite until they recognize the taste or remember that they like it. after the first couple of drippings down the chin through that hole in their mouths it all stays in and they eat it. :)
