I have a friend that has PPD, and she has no insurance at the moment. I was hoping someone here would know how to get her the help that she needs. Can you go through the local health department for depression? The state? Any suggestions would be so appreciated!

    Becky,

Here are some resources I found. It stated on the website that you can contact these different agencies and they can refer you to someone in your friend’s area. I hope this helps. I will be praying for your friend. I had PPD after the twins were born and I know what she is going through.

Becky I would check with the state, a lot of states re offering free care to those that have PPD. Also check with someone of the bigger drug companies they might be able to get her some samples or some help. Sorry that your friend is having to go through this. I understand it all too well.

Any local mental health center is bound by law to treat anyone reguardless of insurance (or lack of it). And there should be a mental helath center that covers each county in every state in the country. They will probably offer services on a sliding scale, based on income, and if the center is like the one I used to work at they have TONS of samples from the drug reps, especially the antidepressants!

What a good friend you are, helping her find help for herself. I'm sure her knowing that you are there to support her helps a lot!! HTH!!!

Some psychologists and psychiatrists in private practice also use a slidding scale and even will take pro bono cases. Maybe she could call some and ask? Hope your friend gets the support she needs soon! So nice of you to be helping her out.

Most areas have a community mental health center. This is designed for people with little to no insurance. Hopefully she can get help there
