My boys will be one in a few weeks & I wanted to know when & how to switch them to milk? They use sippy cups & still drinking 32 oz. formula 4 times a day. They also have 3 meals, snacks & drink juice. I don't even know how much milk to give them when I do switch. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

You should really ask your Pedi about this, but If I remember correctly, I didn't rush it. We did the switch sometime at 14-16 months (I always wait a bit longer after the recommended age). I think we did 2 oz of formula for every 1 oz of milk (whole milk).
But again, your best bet is to call your Pedi and ask.

We took a one week transitioning of half milk / half formula in their bottles ... and then after a week they were getting their normal bottles, just full of milk instead of formula. Then we took the next month to transition out of bottles and into only using sippy cups.

Now, at 20 months, we give them 3 sippy cups of milk a day, breakfast, snack and before dinner. Sometimes they finish it, sometimes they don't, but your pedi will give you a # of how many ounces a day they want you to get in the twins of milk. She told us 16 ozs. And that could be a combo of milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.

I was really worried about the transition, but it was really easier than expected! Good luck!

Erica &Carefulove, thanks for the advice! My DH and I have been discussing how to do this as well, since our LO's will be one soon. To the OP-great question!

I just posted this in 1-4 and got some great responses! You can check out my post if you want!
I dont know about you but I cant wait to not buy formula anymore...as much as I cant wait I think we will take it slow.
I think with Sophie we started giving her half formula/half milk at meals and then formula for morning and evening and then slowly switched it to all milk and cut her off the bottle at 2...it is unreal how soon you forget-hence my post! Sometimes I feel like a 1st time mom all over again!

I did the transition very slowly as well. I started off with 1/4 milk and 3/4 formula and let them get used to that for a few days, then increased to 1/2 and 1/2 for a few days and then 3/4 and 1/4 and then after a few more days total milk. It made the transition for my girls belly ache free.

I gave my son whole milk on his first birthday. He had no objections and didn't seem to notice the switch. I gave it to him in his sippy cup. The only thing was that he did not want ice cold milk so I had to warm it up a little.

Thanks for the advice! I tried 2oz. of whole milk & 14oz. of formula today & the boys didn't notice. I'll just keep putting in more milk each time & see how they respond. I was sooo nervous about this switch. This site is a lifesaver! Btw, Lesley Anne ~ I read you're post after I posted this...too funny! There was some great advice there too! Have a nice night everyone & thanks again! :D
p.s. we also are going to the pedi in a few wks. & I'll double check with him to make sure I'm doing this right....I worry too much!!
