So last week we did the 3-day PTing. After a week and a few very successful days of dry underware I can say they are 95% there! Its the other 5% that is driving me crazy! They both are still going #2 in their underware. They have started #2 and I've gotten them the rest of the way with lots of praise...but most of the time they just go and not tell me. I'm concerned because last week in pre-school one of my DDs did go #2 and they told me if it happens a couple of more times that I need to put her in pull-ups. They are only there a few hours a week but I would hate to start using pull-ups now. What helped your kiddos??

Lots of praise. When my two did go poo in their underwear (or pull ups, depending on which twin we are discussing), I would take the poo and have them go with me and flush it in the potty. I would remind them that poo goes in the potty.
I also had to find their currency...with my two, earning a sticker for going poo in the potty was it.
    Good luck!

I also didn't let them flush the pee potties... but made a big deal about letting them flush when it was a #2 potty!! And they get 2 squirts of the foam soap for washing hands.

but in the end really for my ds it took a while (like a few months from 2 yrs 3 mo to 2 yr 6 mo.. for him to really get it. maybe with yours being older to start they'll get it like pros soon!

Lots of praise and the flushing thing. Plus for my youngest...chocolate. She wants chocolate as her reward. I keep hershey's kisses and that is what she gets when she goes potty. Maybe not the best thing, but I tried stickers, special soap, special pullups/undies, etc...nothing has worked for her but chocolate. So I say use what you know will be a good reward.

With my 1 DS it was finding his "currency" as well...gummy bears. Once we started doing them he did great!:)

Do they seem to go at a certain time every day (like after meals)? Maybe have them sit at that time and read books or watch a dvd. GL!

Thanks ladies! I just broke down and got some M&M's! The sticker charts and small $1 prizes worked great for the first round. I'm guessing going #2 will take more motivation. I'll let you know how it works and hope my DH won't freak out :)

A good friend of mine attended a behavioral specialists' conference last year. The behavioralist said that the 2 most effective motivators are food and sex. So with kids obviously they do not use sex as a motivational tool- food is used frequently. I wouldn't be comfortable with using it all the time, but to get them to go and get the habit established I see no harm. After that you can conveniently 'run out' of whatever motivator they like. ;)

Time is what helped my Sarah. She was the first to pee, but it took her 6 months to work up the courage to go poo in the potty. I'm not sure why, and it was terribly frustrating, but she was in underwear and when she needed to go poo she asked me for a pullup. We did this for 6 months and one day she finally worked up the courage to go in the potty and then never looked back. She was terribly frightened for some reason, and the more I pushed the worse it made the situation. So, I just let her work up the courage on her own. Once she went she was fine, but it just didn't happen for her like it does for most kids. Allison never had a problem with pooping in the potty.
