Help need 2 yr old toy suggestions

We've DEF hit the terrible two's (and it doesn't help that I have a newborn whose 3 months old either) and my nerves are just shot from all the whining and I am finding myself yelling ALL the time. I need to find a way to communicate with them w/o letting their behavior get to me. OK but all that aside what type of toys are your two year olds REALLY into.

WE haven't bought anything new in a while and Im thinking maybe part of the frustration is that most of their toys are too babyish.... so what are you 2 year olds playing with and loving these days.

Duplos
Puzzles
Playdoh -- make a big batch and give them plastic utensils, cookie cutters, etc.
Pretend food
Play kitchen
Magnatiles -- expensive, but worth it
Ride-on toys
Trikes

 

In addition to all of the great suggestions above, how about a dollhouse? New books? Beads and pipe cleaners to string? Markers and an easel? Shovels and rakes for outside? Play tools?

My girls are very into puzzles, books, tools, shovels, the play kitchen and the dollhouse at 28 months.

 

Mine LOVE Little People toys. Esp. the school bus. They would play with those and act stuff out for hours. They also love dress up clothes, cozy coupe cars, puzzles (the kinds with flaps and hidden pieces are their fave), sports equipment.

 

Everything they said above plus Mr./Mrs. Potato heads and legos for their age. GL mine have most of all of the above toys and each other and still wine and cry ALOT

 

So many great suggestions. My boys love playing in their play house, with blocks, and "reading" books. They also love to color with crayons or markers. When we can get outside (really hot here right now!), they love to play with bowls and water or any outdoor toys. Sometimes I give them crushed ice cubes and bowls and let them have fun on the rug in the kitchen. They love it.

Good luck - I had a nasty run-in with the "terrible twos" today... not fun! I can't imagine having a 3-month-old in addition. You are doing an awesome job just hanging in there and I am sure it will get better.

 

Yup, Mr. Potato Heads. THey LOVE them. Bryan can play with those for ages.

 

Thanks so much for ALL the suggestions. I would NEVER have thought about the Mr and Mrs potato heads and thanks Twinboys07 for the nice compliment! We actually had the BEST day that we've had around in here that I can remember. Gives me hope that despite the horrid days there will be some good days thrown in there too. My newborn even let me put him down long enough to get the house cleaned and ready for my mom's visit
