I am just at a loss to know what to do. My boys are 4 years and 2 months old. Neither one of them are potty trained and honestly I really don't know if they are ready. They have always been about 6 months behind. But at the rate we are going they are going to be 5 before they get trained. If you take Kaden every 1/2 hour he will go on the potty but will also still wet his pants if he has to go and is not on the potty. He will not tell you if he is wet, he will not tell you if he needs to go, he has been this way since december. Brendon, I have never once got him to go on the potty chair. I just don't know what to do, they are going to be going to 4 day preschool next year and need to be potty trained. I am at a total loss. I have used normal underwear and they just go in them and continue on. They don't even complain about them being wet. What do I do, I really feel like they are get way over the age to be potty trained, but they show no signs of being ready.

The only idea I have is to see if there is a day care center who would take them for a couple of weeks and let them do the training for you. But then there is the issue of cost, dealing with a new environment, possible reverting to old bad habits when they are at home etc. I have no advice, and my girls are so much younger than your boys. :hug99: I hope you can find a solution quickly.

Since it's summer, have you tried having them run around in the yard with no undies? Maybe having pee running down their legs might be an incentive.

Or use a chart system. If Kaden goes on the potty when you take him, give him a sticker on a chart, Every so many stickers, he gets a prize, maybe choose something from the Dollar Store. After a few days of that, tell him he only gets a sticker if he goes to the potty himself, no stickers for accidents. Maybe Brendon will want a prize too and catch on.

Annie is a few months older than your boys and was potty training, I swear, for 2 years before she finally cut down on her accidents. Even now she still has them because she chooses not stop playing and pees her pants. Makes me want to bop her!!! But she still wears a pull-up to bed. Nowhere near ready to give that up! Interesting that when she when to preschool 2 mornings a week this year she had not a single pee accident (there were 2 loose poop accidents) at school.

Have you told them they have to wear underwear and stay dry at school? If they are excited for school that could be another incentative. Annie is also going 4 days in the fall, and I tell her she has to wipe and flush herself (she's scared of loud flushes.)

Hope some of my ideas work for you! Good luck!

When you buy the underwear, you might want to buy something they really like and would not want to pee on like Elmo or whatever is their choice. I would reward the successes with stars or treats from a special treasure box used only for pee potty time and not be negative at all about the accidents be nonchalant (even though you are pulling your hair out inside). My daughter loved to sit naked on her potty in from of the tv watching 'Once upon a potty' which you can borrow from the library for free. Another idea is to have an older potty trained friend or relative come and give them a lesson.

    Good Luck.
