Help! We're traveling tomorrow : DH, DD (2 years and 8 months old), the boys (6 months old) and I. It will be an 8 hour flight (with 2 hours connexion) to Puerto Rico. We're going on holiday for a week. I packed the children's clothes and I'm starting to have this feeling of panic. I feel I should have asked you guys for advice in advance and it makes me feel even worst!

Please ladies, help! Any tips on things to remember for the flight and over there? We will be staying in a resort (a sort of villa/apartment). We're taking the pack n play (Evenflo BabyGo). For the plane we booked 3 tickets. I know it's crazy but we will be carrying the boys on our laps. We're thinking of taking DD's car seat and have them take turns. But I'm afraid it will be too big and won't fit in her seat. We're traveling with Air Tran, WE bought the tickets on, line, but I called the airline to ask if we could have the double stroller at the gate for the connecting flight, and the clerk said it probably would not be possible. She also refused to reserve the front row seat. She said they are for people with handicap or a wheelchair. I had hoped to take advantage of this place to have DD play on the floor and have her seat free for one of the boys from time to time. I'm totally depressed instead of rejoicing for going on holiday :(

What advice do you have? What is your experience? What should I NOT forget?

I don't have experience, I am going through the same thing right now in trying to pack my girls for a vacation! We are leaving Monday...let's see, I've made a list. Most things I am buying when we get there (like diapers and baby food) so I only need to pack what I actually need for the ride: Let's see if I can think of what's on my list (the list is at my mom's house):

    2 PNPs
    8 bottles
all their swim suits (they're tiny and don't take up much room)
    baby wash
    baby shampoo
    baby lotion
    sunscreen
    2 sleep sacs
at least 2 sets of pajamas (depending on how often you want to wash, we'll wash every day)
day clothes for every day you are there
    hats
    baby spoons
    sippy cups
    pacifires and paci holders
    white noise machine
    2 loveys
    toys
1 stroller (the tandem for us, since it folds up smaller)

My mind is drawing a blank! I know I have a whole page written down! If you want to bring things like diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, etc. I am just bringing what I need for the ride....

myabe someone else can add to this list!

I haven't flown anywhere with my twins, but we went on a road trip where we stayed in a cabin, and I had forgotten laundry detergent and Oxyclean. Oh, we could have used more burp cloths but blankets work too :) Hope you have a wonderful vacation!!

Thanks to both of you! I'm pretty sure I was going to forget some of the things you mention. I'm feeling better already. It's funny because I've never been stressed out before when traveling with DD. I guess having experienced the mess of simply going out of the house with the three children made me anticipate the worst about FLYING with them for such a long trip.

Thank you, I'll try to relax and really enjoy this vacation :)

No advice since you are probably already on your way - but I hope you had a great time! I can't wait to hear how it went. And maybe you can post your advice for traveling with twins when you get back.

Not sure if you've left yet, but in case you haven't here are some suggestions-

If you gate check the stroller and have connecting flights (different planes), you will get your stroller back.

Even if you bring the stroller, bring Bjorns or slings so you and your DH's hands are free. This is great when going thru security since the boys can stay in them while you walk thru.

Try to get to the airport early and ask the checkin person (and if necessary the gate agent) about bulkhead seating. Most airlines have a first-come, first-serve policy about it for those that need it (people with disabilities or traveling with small children).

I would suggest having one of you (with the 'easier' baby) get on the plane during pre-board and get everything set up. Then the other (plus a baby and your DD) wait until the last possible minute to board. Its going to be a long enough trip, might as well wait until you absolutely have to be confined.

As for what to bring, on the plane: snacks, bottles, tylenol (never know), burp cloths, some board books, a portable DVD player for your DD, and your patience and sense of humor! Just remember that the travel part is only a couple hours out of everyone's life.. so don't stress! Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks for this post we are leaving on our first 4 day trip and I am going through the suggestions adding to my list. I know I am adding to a post but if anyone has further suggestions for a road trip please add. I keep thinking I am going to forget something important.
