Help! How to give prevacid

Hello,
my DS has to get prevacid and even though we have the powder form there are these tiny white beads that still get trapped in the nipple. I made the hole bigger in the nipple and they still get stuck! How did you give your babies prevacid. I tried by spoon..that was a mess, I tried by medicine syringe but that got all over as he kept spitting it out.

I'm not sure if this would work since you said it was in a powder form but, this is how we give one of my guys his medicine (prilosec).

We take the nipple/cap off of the bottle and hold it upside down so that our pinkie is covering the nipple hole. We then pour some formula into the nipple and then squirt the medicine in with it. Then we lift up thier head with the other hand (they are laying down at this point) and give them the medicine.

I don't know if this would make sense or not but this seems to be the easiest way for us to make sure that he gets all of his medicine.

 

Powder? Are you using a solutab? Both of mine are on a solutab and I use a syrine. I dissolve it in about 3mls of water and then syring it in their mouths. I do have to shake it around and possibly add more water to make sure all the granuals are gone.

 

I hated that form. The beads always stuck and it is also very sweet. I called the doc and asked to be switched to solutabs. They are much much better. Now, I pop it right in Jack's mouth (and have for months).

 

we tried the bottle one time and realized it would not work- we even had a special nipple. We use a syringe. We draw it up a little at a time. THey actually love it and look forward to it each day! SOmetimes it gets stuck in the syringe so i go to the sink and rinse it out. i have a total of 4 syrniges just in case it gets stuck. maybe try giving a reallly small amount and then kindo of keep the syringe in his mouth so he gets used to swallowing and does not spit it out

 

we tried the solutabs but had the same problem..those little white beads. I thought the powder would have been better and be bead free but those little white beads are in there too! If I could get those beads to crush up he's been able to take it in the nipple with water. It's just those beads get stuck in the nipple and won't come through..I guess I can try to make the nipple hole larger.

 

on the package, it says to stir but not to crush the beads so we always stir lightly. I really have no idea why it would matter if it was crushed or not since it all is being digested??
