I had to take my son to the doctor Thursday due to a rash (it's a heat rash). When they weighed him he was 17lbs!!! He isn't even quite four months!!!!!!! The doctor didn't seemed concerned at all about it but I am. He eats 5 time in 24 hours (4-6 oz bottles and 1 7oz at bed time). I feel like I should be stopping his midnight bottle. I just started him in rice cereal (dr said to). When he eats the cereal, I fix his bottle and use the formual in the bottle to mix the cereal. He then only gets what's left in the bottle web he drinks it. Should I start elemenatig that night bottle? How would you go about doing that? I may try fixing a smaller bottle at those times and see what happens. Oh, he has slept through twice. He would wake up at six, and still would eat five bottles. He eats every four hours. When he sttn those two times, he would get a 4 oz a 6:00 and 4 more at 8:30 (bedtime).

I would work on eliminating the midnight bottle - at his size, he should not need to eat at night. What I would suggest is gradually shift 1/2 oz at a time to the daytime bottles so he is getting the same amount, but in 4 bottles. When you get the nighttime bottle down to about 2 oz., cut it out completely. That is how I shifted our guys from 5 to 4 bottles (and then from 4 to 3 recently) and kept them getting about the same amount of formula.

And I know how you feel on the size. Michael weighed 23 lbs. 10 oz. at his 9 month check up! He is 90th percentile for both height and weight. Gabriel is more average - 50th percentile for weight, 75th for height. They are both big boys. I can't remember how much they weighed at 4 months, but I think it was close to 17 lbs, maybe even a little more.

My oldest was 20lbs at 4 months, so I wouldnt worry about him. You will see he will start to slow down soon. Donevan, who is my oldest, now at 3 is 34lbs, so since he was 4 months old, he has only put on 14lbs. He may be ready to drop his midnight bottle though. Are you doing solids yet?

I just started rice cereal three days ago. Y'all are making mr feel better about his weight. My first was only 14 lbs at her 4 month checkup and th Moose's twin sister is only 12.5 lbs. I'm glad it's the boy being heavy instead of the girl!! I will try to add a half oz to his daytime bottles and then start giving less at night. Thanks for the advice and anyone else reading this advice is still welcome.

My girls are the huge ones!!! They were 16.5lbs at 4 months and now at 10 months way more than my son did at a year (around 23lbs). I wish it were the other way around but I seem to have big girls and a small boy!

Since my girls were bigger they stopped eating at night around 6.5 months but probably could have done it earlier if I had tried. My son had a dream feed until he was 18 months so I pretty much thought it was impossible for 6 month olds not to eat at night...I was wrong!

My son is also big. He gained A LOT of weight between 6 and 7 months (was 21 pounds by 7 months, I think!) but hasn't gained since. Now he's still 21 pounds at 10 months, which is big, but not freakishly large like before. He also grew taller, so he doesn't look so rolly polly anymore. I understand your feelings - you feel like people must think you are overfeeding them, but really you can't overfeed a baby - particularly at 4 months!
