Help getting them to sleep in their crib

My twins are 9 weeks old today. I have been both reassured and enjoyed all of the advice I have gotten on this site. I now understand what everyone was saying about just surviving this period. For the last nine weeks the kiddos have slept whereever they would sleep...in a swing, bouncer, car seat, the floor or on me, but never in their crib. I really want them to start sleeping in their crib in their own room, but everytime I put them in there they wake up. If we try to start them in the crib they sometimes are calm while their soother is on, but as soon as it turns off they wake up. Our pediatrician says they need to be sleeping in their own crib by 3 months. So I was wondering if how those of you whose twins slept everywhere but their crib finally got them to sleep in their crib. Also does anyone know of a soother that stays on for more than 10 minutes so I don't have to constantly turn it back on?

    hi,

My belief is that at this age, you should do anything that lets your kids sleep - you shoudl try to have them in cribs by 4 months -- cause that's when they start knowing the difference --.. so here's some thoughts:

    1) place their car seat, bouncy or whatever in the crib -- so they sleep in the crib but in something else.
    2) use a positioner iwth sides
    3) swaddle the kids
    4) roll up a blanket into a U and place the baby in the open end of the U -- key is to have sides right up next to the kid.

Cribs are big places, so you need to create a small environment inside the crib to make the baby feel safe and warm.

Try napping them in their room first then sleeping them there after they've acclimated.

oh well, some thought to ponder.

Teri gave you some great advice! I would also suggest maybe putting in a sound machine or cd player that plays music, so that there is still noise when the mobile or whatever you have turns off.

Our sound machine is a brand called Homedics Body Basics Sound Machine
It can be nice and loud. BRU sells one and I did not like it at all because it was not loud.

We put our boys in their crib at 4 months and it took just a couple of days. I thought the transition was going to be much worse then it was. I would not worry if your babies were not in their crib yet. Seems like many people have waited until 4 months.

My girls are 9 1/2 weeks and I was just wondering about this today!! DH and I are worried that the babies are already addicted to their swings!! (or carseats) Well maybe I shouldnt panic quite yet. Great question cant wait to hear the rest of your responses

    hi all,
Our girls transitioned about the same time to their crib. We started first by putting their bouncy seat in the crib, with them in it, then we moved to having themboth in the same crib, swaddled closely together. They liked being together in such a new big space. After they hit 4 months, we separated them into their own cribs, but in same room so they can see each other. Reese was our early mover, and she would end up waking abbi, by kicking her.

Hope this helps. At that age, any sleep was good.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it yet.
Do what works! It's all about getting sleep - the crib can be used later :D

Ditto above! My boys slept wherever they wanted until about 5-6 months i.e. carseat, swing, bouncy, PNP, in bed with me. SLEEP FOR US ALL was the biggest thing I wanted! Then we transitioned to cribs during naps first then bedtime. At times we did separate them for naps and at night. One slept with me sometimes while the other in his crib. But by a year they were BOTH in their cribs and sleeping well through eachothers cries. I never believed it would happen but it DOES.

i have to say these last couple of night we have been swaddling them and they sleep until their next feeding without a peep. I bought these snugglers you can get them at babiesrus they are awesome.. thye swaddled so good.. and my babies do not move in them and sleep very well. I highly suggest them and swaddle them tight they love it.
    good luck!

We are in the same boat. Our boys are just over 2 months old and they still sleep in their papasan bouncy chairs, swaddled. They are sleeping in 5-6 hour stretches at night, so I am hesitant to make the change, but I know that eventually, I will have to. One of the boys has reflux, so that is making it hard to have him lie flat...
