Emma will not use a sippy cup or eat. She has no health problems. I had her doctor check her out and she said everything was fine. She has never liked baby food. She eats a yogurt every day and that is about it. I give her the sippy cup but she screams. Sometimes she will accept a bite of food but spits it out. I finally cave and give her a bottle because I don't want her hungry or dehydrated. She was 1 on Dec. 30. None of my first 4 kids were like this! Suggestions? Thanks!

What about an open cup? I started with a shot glass filled with water for the boys - it's just their size.

As to the food- what happens if you give her table food on a tray and walk away?

Would she take a sippy that is a straw instead? The water flows faster and my guys love it. There is some overflow though so a bib is useful.

In terms of food, will she pick it up herself? Maybe different size chunks and textures? My guys love avocado chunks, hummus on a bit of rice cracker, peas, blueberries etc. I like the suggestion of leaving her a bit too. Doing the food battle stinks.

One other thought, does she show interest in your food? Maybe you could make a bowl if what you want her to eat but have a bit yourself. My food always seems to be more interesting to my dudes. HTH and good luck!

I agree - skip the baby food & go straight to table food. Check this out for more info: http://www.babyledweaning.com/

Also, offer a sippy with milk or water with her meals but don't worry if she doesn't drink much. It's mostly just so she can get used to it. Then schedule a separate time for her to have a bottle. Think of them as two different types of eating rather than giving a bottle after a meal as a "top up" because she hasn't eaten. Solids at this stage, even so close to her first birthday, are mostly for trying new tastes & textures. The majority of her nutrition should still be coming from formula/breastmilk.
