So I am freaking out about this book that my babies (6 mo.) have been chewing on because they are teething. I didn't realize until today how much of it is peeling off. I am so afraid they have swallowed a lot of it. It is a children's board book "spot looks at colors" and they have basically gummed the edges of it that flakes have come off, and I assume they have swallowed at least some of it.
Are baby board books non-toxic? I am going to try to call the company. Am I just a stressed out new mom? I feel so terrible for letting them chew on it without realizing how much it is peeling!

In a perfect world I would think that baby board books would be safe to eat. It probably is a good thing you are calling the company to be sure!

I have called the pedi on two separate occasions for possible ingestion issues and was told to call posion control. I wonder if they could tell you whether or not it's an issue? They have been very helpful to me in the past.

I don't think there is anythign wrong about worrying about it but I will say that my oldest has ingested many board book corners and he hasn't displayed anything in 4 years that would indicate anything toxic. But again, you never know either.

when mine did that the first time, I was more stressed out that they chewed on the book and damaged the book. books are for reading not eating or teething, so I tried to redirect their effort to teething toys.

BTW, my kids didnt get sick from eating the books. they've eaten sections of several book corners and spines.

I have book beavers too and noone has ever gotten sick. I do try to prevent it whenever possible though!

"Book Beavers?" LOL! :rotflmbo: Our DS has chewed many books, too...but luckily has never experienced any side effects.
