    Hi Everyone!

My babies are 4 months old as of last Friday. They started daycare at 12 wks...so they've been going 5 weeks. The second week I decided to start doing half BM half formula, I just couldn't pump enough to EBF. Anyway, they took to it just fine, and we've been doing half and half since. Sometimes depending on the stash, they'll get a full bottle of BM, or sometimes formula.

So the second week of daycare, my baby boy got sick with a cold. For 5 wks now he's been coughing. The doctor said it is all in the nose and my babies will be sick with 12-16 colds their first year of daycare. Yuck, but anyway. That same week he just stoppped coo'ing, and he was our talker! He hasn't really coo'ed much since. While my baby girl, has really picked up on the coo'ing and babbles constantly.

The doctor said she couldn't tell me why, but she had a theory that maybe his dry itchy skin might have caused it. I thought I was doing a good job lotioning him up but apparently it wasn't good enough. So now he's been getting slathered in vaseline and hydrocortisone multiple times throughout the day. His skin is looking great.
Then surprisingly, yesterday, he coo'ed more than he has been. I was so happy, thinking he was CURED!

As I'm preparing bottles for tomorrow, I thought to myself, what else happened that second week of daycare? 1) he got sick, 2) they started half formula in their bottles

#2 stuck out...yesterday morning when he coo'ed he had had two straight BM bottles to start out the day...
now today, it was back to half and half, and I didnt hear any coos...

I read that he could be learning a new skill...but I have yet to see one.
My doctor isn't too concerned because his hearing and everything else seems fine...

    :(

Has anyone seen anything like this happen?!
Could any of these theories be the culprit?

It happens to mine also... they stop babbling for a while then start again a week later.

Yep, same here. It wasnt until they were like 7-8 months old until they became really consistent babblers. Now they dont stop ;)

My DD also went through this. Now both are constant talkers and DD has picked up on screeching! :p

My DS did that for a little while, but now he's back to 'talking' to me all the time!

My Mom told me that sometimes babies can forget how to do things and then remember a few days/weeks later. My DS was smiling like crazy one day and then went 5 days with nothing! I was so sad, but it's back now!

Mine are still off and on. Now it seems to depend on how busy they are with other things.

Yep me too, mine would babble and then learn a new skill and then they would stop babbling for a while, and then it would start up again. At about 8 months they consistently babbled all day long...and now my house is never quiet.

Mine didn't consistently coo until they were 7 months old, I would try not to worry about it!
