Help - advice sought

So I started on Monday. Brendan took right to the potty. He used it consistently for 3 days for pee with 1-2 accidents. He even stayed dry during his nap and while playing outside for an hour and a half. He was telling me when he had to go. On Thiursday he went on a 45 minute car trip to gymboree and stayed dry in a pull-up from 9:00 until 13:30 when he used the potty at his grandmother's house 2 x's and had one accident while playing. When we got home he refused to go on the potty and ran around the house crying for a diaper and eventually peed on the floor. Today he refused the potty, cried and said no potty. I am guessing he felt tpoo much pressure. He did sit ion the potty for about 5 minutes, but would not pee. He went in his piull up a decent amount during nap today. I have tried to back off and not focus on the issue. He is in big boy pants now and I used a pull-up when we went to the park. I don't want to put him in a diaper, but don't know what to do. Is it possible he is not ready (even though he showed signs and did so well the first few days)? What would you do

 

Did you try a few more days? My advice is to take it easy and don't push him. If he is still acting this way, asking to not try right now, I would probably cave and figure he is not ready. When I PTed John he was 3 so I able to reason with him about the importance of it and how much more he could do WITHOUT the diaper. But at 2 yrs 4 mos I am not sure how much I could have reasoned with him.

Thanks Sarah. I caved and gave him the diaper on Saturday. Since that time he has asked to sit on the potty twice but did not go. I am going to take it easy and try again in about two weeks. Who knew how much potty anxiety I would have :shok: I was even starting to dream about potty training!

It's crazy, isn't it??? I think its best to just let it ride for a little while and wait it out. Remember, its not supposed to completely stress you out too. No doubt your stress level will affect your child's stress level too--- NOT so good for PTing.
