I am SOOO frustrated!!! I started solids with my girls when they were 6 months old, but it made them gassy & spit up, so I stopped for about 2 weeks so their stomachs could mature. Well, I started again 2 days ago & yesterday my daughter, Claire, threw up EVERYthing in her stomach!!!

This time around I've been giving them solids about an hour to an hour and a half after they eat their bottle & about an hour to an hour and a half before their next bottle. Yesterday Claire had an hour in between eating her sweet potatoes & her bottle, but I think she must have had too much sweet potato in her stomach b/c her bottle was too much for her (she threw up the first 5 oz she drank).

So anyways, I'm just really frustrated about this & am starting to worry that my girls will never be eating solids!!

How much are they eating at a sitting? Maybe if you just offer them a little taste, so that they don't really fill up too much, it might work.

:hug99: Hang in there, mama! I promise, they WILL be eating big people food with no problem sometime. And it's really OK if they're not eating much or not handling it well right now - formula/breastmilk is all they really need for the whole first year. It's good for them to practice with the solids, but it's ok if it's not quite working perfectly yet.

I would also suggest giving them a little taste and adding a little more as they tolerate it more and more. They will be eating solids! Hang in there, you are doing a great job!

Thanks ladies! I really need the encouragement b/c Claire throwing up that much is really scary to me. I just imagine her choking on her vomit!!

As far as how much they're eating...I bought those little Gerber baby food packages that come with 2 plastic containers per package. I make one of the plastic containers last for 2 days & I split it between both girls, so at the most, they eat a 4th of the plastic container at a sitting. Claire does really well eating her solids & she actually lunges towards the spoon to eat more, so I thought it was OK to keep feeding her until she was uninterested.

I'm wondering how the rest of you work in their solids??

:hug99: Solids are just to practice now so if you give them a couple spoonfuls that is enough. Any concerns though, call your pedi.

I agree, just a little taste, and add a little more over time.

Usually that is ok - but it sounds like your little girl's eyes are bigger than her stomach! Maybe she's just having trouble figuring out how to stop before she gets too full. Adults have about a 15 minute lag between getting full and feeling full - I wonder if babies have the same thing.

Hang in there! I hope she doesn't make you do too much more beautiful, colorful laundry... ;)

As for spitting up the bottle, I know it seems like a lot, but it probably isn't as much as you think. Molly has reflux and there are times when I wonder if she kept anything in her tummy! Try putting a little bit of rice cereal in with her food. Maybe it's too acidic for her tummy right now. Feed her a couple of bites and add as she tolerates it, as PP have said. You can use mostly cereal and use the jar food to add flavor. When I would feed my children, I would mix the food with the cereal and a little bit of milk or formula. I even did it with the 2nd foods at times. They seemed to tolerate it better that way. Good luck and it will work out. Hang in there!
