With all of the weight posts on the parentsclub board, I almost didn't want to post this. I will start off by saying that my girls have something called Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome, one of the characterstics that comes with the syndrome is being overly large until the kids reach adolescent years (there are many other characterstics that we have to deal with too, but I won't go into them). So the girls are followed by a nutrionist and this morning she came to do a weigh in. We watch what the girls eat, no sweets, no juice - only the healthy stuff for them, like double fiber bread, lots of veggies and fruits, etc. Natalie gained a whopping 2 lbs in 2 weeks. Her weight gains have been pretty crazy, pretty much a lb a month, but this morning I was shocked at 41lbs, thank goodness she is also 39inches tall. Too give you some perspective she is the average height of a 4yr old and average weight of a 5yr old. We keep the girls very busy, swimming, walking, going to the park etc. This week was actually a more active week than most. So bottom line, I just can't control her weight anymore than I'm doing. Other parents of kids with the syndrome would tell me the same thing - to not starve them or put them on a diet at this age, just watch what they eat and wait it out.

So I come to my question, our car seats only goes to 40lbs, she's too young for a booster. What would you all recommend? By contrast her sister who seems to have a milder case of the syndrome weighs 35lbs and is 38 inches tall. Thanks in advance!!!

We have the Sunshine Kids Radian65. It goes up to 65lbs with a 5-pt harness. They also have a Radian80 that goes up to 80 lbs.

Here is a link to the manufcature website. They are available through lots of different websites, so I encourage you to shop around for a good deal.

We have the Radian80 in dh's car - it is an excellent seat & goes to 80 lbs. We have Britax Wizards in my car - they go to 65 lbs but are much mroe closed in han the Radian80's. Good luck with your little ones - it sounds like you are taking excellent care of them.

I *think* the Britax Roundabouts we have go up to 65 lbs, not sure of the height max. I also remember from when we were shopping that the Marathons go up to 80 lbs, something in that range.

We got our daughter one of these seats from Graco. It goes up 100 lbs and can be used with a seat belt, but also has a 5 point harness. And it's only about $100. We've used it for ~ 6 months and have really liked it so far.

Just a warning this seat only goes up to 40lbs on the harness. Your best bet would probably be the Radian80 as it sounds like the girls are going to be on the large side for a while and you want them to be able to use it as long as possible. We just found out that our built in carseats go up to 50lbs so Nathan is back in to a 5point harness. He is been bouncing around 40lbs for a few months. Hopefully they will last another year for him (he has really slowed in weight gain).

my Berkley doesn't have the syndrome but is extraordinarily big for her age. We bought the Britax Wizrds, they hold up to 80lbs.

We have the same ones and I really like them. Although they are really "slim" and probably wouldn't be comfortable for a larger child. My friend has a 50+ lb almost 4 year old and he would be too big for them. He is in a Britax, the biggest one I think. HTH :)
