Hello! I want to make this a long one (A- I'm chatty, B- I clung to these stories when pregnant as what could happen to me and really enjoyed them). Excuse any typos- the boys are due to eat at any time!

    So, here we go!

At 37 weeks, Wednesday, 9/2, I decided they were ready to come out- I was "full twin term", miserable, huge and dilated to 4 cm for a week now. I started trying the home remedies that you hear about- the ankle rubbing, sex, long walks (really just in stores, but I'd been using the Amigo carts for the last month, so it was a TREK for me! :pardon: ). Nothing was working and as Baby A, Sebastian, was breech and Baby B, Orion, was transverse, I had a planned C-Section on 9/9/09.

So on Labor Day Monday I give up. I lay around all morning, DH & I decide to watch a Netflix DVD on Home Birth by Rikki Lake (which was really good, BTW). We finish the video around 4 and I decide I'm gonna take my customary 2nd bath of the day (PUPPPS were mostly gone, but I still felt uncomfortable/itchy sometimes). I call a friend and climb in the tub. As I'm laying back, listening to my friend, I felt something which made me wonder if I'd peed a bit... but it seemed like too much to be pee. I mention that I think my water broke, sit up, see the water turned cloudy and had like little soap flakes in it which hadn't been there before. My friend ORDERS me to get up :D and when I do- it's definate. My water started coming out like someone turned on the faucet, LOL! I grab a towel to staunch the flow (it didn't... my very good friend had to stop by the apartment and wash the bathroom rugs, ugh.)

We made it to the hospital, only to find out that since I'd ate at 2, they wanted to wait until 8 to do the spinal. Meanwhile, I had a couple of good contractions and have to say- if you know you are having a C-Section, it's got to be preferable to laboring- those contractions are long minute!

Once in the OR, things moved fast- the spinal was put in and I got a great surprise. My favorite HMO doc just clocked in for the night and was going to be doing the surgery! (A relative miracle given all the OBs in the insurance group.) :air_kiss:

I was very relaxed and actually impressed DH, who was a little grossed out by the smell of the cauterizing knife ("Reminded me of the dentists' office"- DH). I thought it was taking forever, b/c I'm just laying there, waiting to hear the cries. Eventually Sebastian Quinn was born at 8:54pm (6 lbs 2 ozs) and Orion Michael was born at 8:57pm (5 lbs 7 ozs), after spraying the OR with his bag of water!

So they weren't the 7 lbers with fat rolls I thought they'd be... but they didn't need any NICU time, so that's really what matters. Orion was classified as a bit small for gestational age and had a bit more jaundice than Sebastian, but not to worry- he's small but mighty. The one really clear memory I have is in the recovery room nursing him, specifically, thinking, this kid is GOOD at this. Currently he's a week old and can already latch himself on if he unlatches. Apparently this is a 2 mo. old skill? (Must be DH's genes... I'm not mechanically inclined at all!)

Nurses and lactation consultants are blown away by their growth already- they are almost back at birth weight and gaining 2 and 3 ozs of weight per day.

The C-Section recovery has not been bad- other than I can't swallow pills, so I was eating crushed up stool softeners, liquid iron, etc. Today we went out for the very first time as a family to BRU and it was wonderful to NOT BE PREGNANT ANYMORE. Ladies, this twin pregnancy stuff is hellish- I'm happier recovering from major surgery than I was pregnant. I can reach my ankles again!!!!

I'm off to the 1st year forum- stay healthy and get as much of those piddly last minute errands done as possible while pregnant- (like addressing birth announcements). It's amazing how much 2 little babies can suck time out of your day!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story! I couldn't agree more on the "hellish" part of twin pregnancy. I was so miserable from about 28 weeks on....until I delivered at 38 weeks! It is much easier recovering from childbirth than it was being pregnant with twins!
