I am pleased to announce that yesterday, April 12, Ava and Audrey entered the world via emergecy c-section. They were born at 34 weeks 4 days. Ava Lilliana(Baby A) was born at 5:34 and weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces. Audrey Daniella (Baby B) was born at 5:35 and weighed 4 pounds 3.2 ounces . (Not quite the 5 pounds plus we were told each were at our April 8th u/s)

We started the day with our routine NST and a visit to our OBGYN. Both visits pronounced the girls doing well. Nonetheless, all day long I had a funny feeling. No contractions, no cramps, nothing except a weird feeling that I did not want to be alone. I wrote off the weird feeling - DH went to work and sent parents off after a quick visit. Not one hour after sending parents away, my water broke. Some women have a trickle, I had a flood. I had no idea there could be so much fluid in there.

Amazingly enough, I kept my cool. I called my parents (closest people to me geographically) and told them it was time to go - which sent my mother into complete panic. Called DH and told him to head to the hospital - he immediately switched into overload and I had to remind him to follow the traffic laws. Called OBGYN and let her know the news, and then we were all off to the hospital.

When I arrived at the hospital, I managed to make jokes with the L&D check-in desk about my wet pants. (Even the body towel shoved into my pants did not absorb my flow.) From there time became completely warped. DH arrived and my mom got booted out. I was feeling nothing, other than wet and embarassment for the puddles I kept creating. I kept waiting to feel something, while everyone bustled about. It was surreal to watch the doctors in motion. I felt like they were operating on high gear, while I was just floating along. The c-section birth was a tad uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I stayed relaxed the whole time. Each girl was whisked away after she was delivered - only DH got to see them. DH left after Audrey was delivered, and he returned shortly thereafter with one in each arm... and there they were. The most perfect family you could ever hope for. Two girls screaming, one father beaming from ear to ear.

The girls are now in the NICU, despite getting 9s on their Apgars. They appear to have no breathing issues (no apnea and haven't needed oxygen). I am told the only reason they are there is their weight, and I am also told they are doing the best out of everyone in there. I am told the magic weight for them to go home is 4 pounds 8 ounces. So, Ava will may get to go home when I do, but we may have to leave Audrey here. I am heart broken over this prospect, but am trying to remind myself that it is best for her. In the mean time, we working on BFing. Ava has the general idea. She gets latched, but doesn't have the muscle strength to maintain it for long. Audrey is just gumming me, but we'll keep trying.

So, it is with great joy, and some bittersweet, that I say goodbye to the lovely ladies of the Expecting forum. I have greatly enjoyed sharing this time of expectation with you all. To those of you who have been there before and shared your wisdom - thank you for your insight. To those who have gone through this with me - thank you for your support - some of us have been oddly in synch. I can't wait to see everyone in the first year, and hope to see none of you in NICU Twins.

    Blessings.

Congratulations!!! I think you were one of the first people I spoke with when I came to the board at just 9 weeks! Now it's the end and look at the lovely ladies you just had! Despite the emergency C, it sounds like the girls are doing fabulous - you included. Hoping for a quick NICU stay for your family and then lots of memories to be made at home!
