My boys are 7 weeks old today and they are super fussy! Both seem to have very uncomfortable tummies and are eating only sporadically. They both want both hands! This has been going on for several days now. I've been told that this is just a fussy period. Should I expect it to last for weeks? (And should I start mainlining valium?)

Are they showing any signs of reflux? Also, is the fussiness all day or just at a certain time (ie, early evening, late night, morning, etc?). If so, they could be colicy. I found that if I don't have my girls in bed by 8:00 every night, it's a struggle.

My boys reached their peek about 7 weeks adjusted age. Unfortunately it did last a few weeks. Hope it gets better soon. Mine would cry the most from about 6-9pm. I never found a real solution it does just gradually get better.

Urgh, don't say adjusted age, that means another six weeks for me! Oh well, one day at a time.

Not necessarily, all babies are different. Hang in there and fill that valium lol!

Most books say peak fussiness is around 8 weeks and most of it gone by 12 weeks (then you just have "normal" fussiness :p ). Dd was a VERY fussy baby and right around 12 weeks she turned into a happy camper :D

They spit up a little but not a lot. It's day-round fussiness. Their tummies gurgle and they seem like they're trying to poop. Indeed their BMs have been less often when they used to have one every feeding.

Our girls, born at 32.5 weeks, were colicky and fussy until about 4 months...and things completely didn't clear up until about 6 months actual age. I know what you're thinking--"this will never end". I found taking walks in the early evening (6pm-ish) calmed them down, and once I brought them home, would bathe them, and put them to bed. That helped a lot after 5pm. Hang in there--you're still in the thick of things.

Weeks 6-14 or so were the roughest for us as far as fussiness. I did find that feeding them often during the 'witching hours' did help a lot. Hang in there!

Our "height of fussiness" period lasted from about 7-10 weeks. They were born at 37 weeks, so that corresponded pretty exactly to the 6-week peak I'd read about for full-term babies. It got slightly better from 10-12 weeks and then a LOT better sometime around 3-3.5 months.

Feeding them more often would probably have helped. In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have tried so hard to stick to the 2.5-3 hour schedule. But I also felt like if we lost the schedule, I'd lose my mind.
