We had a ped appt today. Needless to say they are now watching their growth. I thought they were doing well. What were your babies height and weight at 3 months??

    At 2.5 months they were:
    Geneva: 8 lbs 12 oz
    Gretchyn: 8 lbs 14 oz
    Both 21 inches long.

    At 3.5 months they were:
    Geneva: 10lbs 7.5oz, 23 inches
    Gretchyn: 10lbs 7.5oz, 22.5 inches

JE was 10-3 and 21 1/2" and JD was 10-10 and 22 1/2". Both had a head circumferance of 15 ". With the first growth chart they used he said they were under the 5% adjusted. But when he used an infant to adult chart they were right under the 50% adjusted. He said we would need to watch their growth and if it didn't improve that I'd have to start more feedings and supplementing. Which is discouraging because I've been pumping and breastfeeding up till now. I've been wanting/trying to go to exclusively breastfeeding. :cray:

I would guess their actual height/weight in relation to their birthweight is most important. So what % were they in at birth or at their 2 week appt? If they fall off that growth curve then there may be some cause for concern, but if they were always in the low %, then it shoudn't be a big issue.

    Ellie was 5lbs 15.6oz and 19 in at birth and 10lbs 13oz and 22 1/2 in at 2 mos
    Henry was 7lbs 6oz and 20 in at birth and 11lbs 13oz and 23 1/2 in at 2 mos

I'm sorry you were told that Nini. :hug99: I can understand how discouraging that must be.

I was never told anything like that with DS and his height and weight were the same as what JD's is when he was that age. He was exclusively breastfed. From DS's 3 month appointment to his 4 month appointment he gained about 4 pounds and gained about 5 inches in height. There is hope. Maybe you could try to fit in an extra nursing session or two. :unknw: That's what I did because I was discourged about his weight and I was afraid I would be told the same as you.

Good luck and keep us updated on how they (and you) are doing. :hug99:

Thanks girls! I thought they were doing so well. Jesse was 4-10 and 18 1/2" at birth and Joshua was 5 lbs and 17 1/2". They have more than doubled their weights in 3 months. I thought that was awesome. Maybe they looked at the charts wrong. They were born at 33 wks 6 days, but still I think they should be higher than the 5th percentile. Who knows?? I really am dumbfounded.

That's exactly what mine were last month. They are not on the chart for weight, but since they are doing well on their individual growth curves there is no prob. I'm Exclusively BF, and luckily my ped is so supportive of that, because the NP tried telling me I had to supplement. He told me there is no need. You're doing great! Your babies are just perfect!

My girls were about the same as yours at birth and one was 10.5 pounds by three months, the other was 11 pounds. The pediatrician was thrilled, since they went from less than 5% to over 10%. I think you might want to check with your ped again as to why he wasn't happy with your twins' growth. Since yours were small to begin with, it shouldn't be as big of a deal if they're still small, just as long as they're not losing percentages or weight (according to my ped).

    Good luck!

My weights are in my siggy. They were born close to 8lbs, and formula fed as well (if that matters).

Thanks to all for responding. It's really nice knowing that they are at the low end but not so little that they are in trouble. It's great that some of your little ones are so robust and healthy too. My two singletons were so big, it's strange to have such little peanuts.

    DD was 4lbs 1oz at birth and at 2 mos was 8lbs 15oz / 4 mos was 12lbs 8oz

    DS was 3lbs 13oz at birth and at 2 mos was 9lbs 9oz / 4 mos was 15lbs 1oz

Both are in the 50th % for height and weight.

    Born at 33 weeks.

    Hope this helps.
