I've been reading a few threads and in some cases, people have written that they are at risk for one thing or another because they are short? I've never heard of this, have I missed something? I'm very curious since I'm 5'2 which isn't that tall and my doctor hasn't mentioned it. Perhaps some of you can shed some light onto this for me. Cheers

I am 4'11 and carried my girls to 37.5 weeks with no problems :good:
The only thing I can think of that was difficult was that I didn't have as much 'room' as a taller person ;)

I read that too.. being that I'm 5'3 it concerned me a little, but I've heard lots of reassuring stories from other "short" moms saying they made it full term (37-38 weeks) just fine. So I'm hoping I'll be okay too! People tell me I don't look very big for being nearly 31 weeks with twins... I figure that's a good thing and hopefully it means I still have lots of room for them to grow.

ditto to what tamara said. I dont think being short puts you more at risk, but if you have a shorter torso, there is less room for the lil ones. Taller women in general have an easier time carrying twins simply cause there is more room.

I'm shorter (not much torso as previous posters mentioned, which means less room and more stretching) and I have had previous surgery on my uterus. Because of that, my doctor doesnt plan to let me go past 37 weeks partly out of fear of rupturing. I dont think it would be an issue if I was just short, but the combination means that my doctor will be monitoring me more closely towards the end. He wont want them to get too big out of fear for the condition of my uterus.

But I know several tiny women who have gone nearly to term.

i'm 5'2" as well and carried them to 37 weeks. I did start having contractions at 29, swelling starting at 10 weeks, and carpal tunnel develop when i was around 20 weeks due to the swelling... but that could've happened to anyone anysize.

I'm 5'3" and short torso...my girls were born at 31+6- I ran out of room and baby b was stressed. I had PTL a lot before hand. My peri said it is more common for for short women that are 1st time moms to go early than if it is twins after a singleton since the uterus is not been stretched out.

Im 5'2, had my babies via induction vaginally at 37 weeks. I did have some PTL, and 5 weeks of bedrest but otherwise had a fantastic pregnancy!
Sure I didnt have a lot of room for the babies vertically, but my stomach was out so far horizontally I could sit my whole dinner plate on it :)
Its amazing what a womans body is capable of!!!

I'm 5' 2 and I've had no problem getting to this point. If I don't go into labor on my own in the next day, I'm having my boys on Monday at 37 weeks and 4 days. My belly is astondingly huge, but until 35 weeks I was pretty comfortable.

I'm 5'9" and I had terrible complications during my pregnancy. So the height thing didn't ring true for me either, even on the other end of the spectrum.

I'm 6" and I had Pre-E and had to have them at 35 weeks.

The only difference really is that I did have more room for the babies, and I didn't stick out as much in front as a lot of shorter girls carrying twins do. Alice still got smooshed inutero though. (She came out with a pretty flat head via c-section, and it never really went away)

I'm 5'3 and almost 35 weeks and have made it this far with no problems at all. I also am not very big which is surprising bc my torso is very short so I don't really think being short puts you at higher risk for complications. When I found out I was having twins they told me its much harder for someone that is short to carry twins and I figured I was doomed but I'm doing just fine :) Just a little uncomfortable!

I'm 5'9 and only carried mine for 35 weeks, so I don't think my height helped me at all in carrying my babies. I didn't look pregnant with twins, but I didn't carry them as long as many people have already posted.

5'1" and had no issues at all. Carried to 37.1 weeks. I had run out of room for my amnions by then (they were 6,9 and 6,13), but they were term, so it was fine. I was not a first-time mom, but my first son was 9.5 lbs and I carried him 41.2 weeks. I couldn't drive, because my legs were too short once my belly got big, but no bedrest or anything. :D
