I have a mild case of continual heartburn -- more annoying than painful. My OB recommended 20mg Prilosec twice a day. Just wondering if there's anything else that helps?

I asked my peri about this on my last visit. He also told me to take the Prilosec (or any over the counter pill similar) and to take "shots" of Mylanta. It tastes like crap but it helps! He told me to avoid Tums since they have a chemical in them that can actually promote acid therefore promting you to take more Tums.

Hope you are able to get some relief quickly!

My doc gave me several suggestions, right now Tums on occasion are still doing the trick. But, he did suggest buying some heavy whipping cream and just drinking it slowly as it will coat your stomach, if you don't mind the calories. I have never tried it, but I assume its for a mild case of heartburn.

Just tums. PP that's very interesting about them producing more acid, I think that may be true since when I have heartburn I have to eat a ton of them and it never seems to go away!

I've almost become immune to the pepcid ac max and zantac. Both perscribed since pregnancy was found since I live with acid reflux. I trade off on them and avoid using them when I can to minimize the loss of effectiveness.
Out of the two I've had better luck with Pepcid AC max though.

It seems like milk, dairy products, and any kind of chewable stuff just makes it come back worse later for me.

pepcid AC worked so fast - within minutes for me... that was the only thing!

Wait 15 minutes after you eat to drink anything. I had to have prescriptions. My food was not going down into my stomach, but hanging out in my esophagus. This made me sick for many months. Now I take reglan.
