I have just been wakened with really bad heartburn. I am starting to have to take rolaids every night because the heartburn has started kicking in. I just ate 3 rolaids it didnt do anything, so I had 2 more 30 minutes later and it still isnt helping me. My friend gave me her prescription for tagament she was given by her OB for her HB and I am wondering if its ok to take if I just had all those rolaids. I cant exactly call my Ob at midnight and I dont want to be up all night until it goes away. I am going to take a 1/2 a pill for now but wondered for future reference. I was so hoping I would skip this pregnancy symptom.!

Not sure about the Tagament. I cannot get my OB to prescribe me anything and my reflux is MISERABLE! To the point that I think it is causing the enamel on my teeth to be bad because I am getting tooth aches now (and I NEVER have teeth problems). Anyway, I am allowed to use Pepcid AC or Zantac (neither which work for me), so I do know that those are ok.

Best of luck, I hate the acid.

I know this doesn't answer your question but it might help. my dr won't perscribe anything for my heartburn and reflux because she sais they may cause contractions so i don't know anything about meds. i've found though that eating half an apple makes me feel all better immediately. something about the apple being great at absorbing acid. you might want to give it a try. hope you feel better.

The best cure while you are waiting for your meds to kick in would be chewing on a non-minty gum! That will give you quick relief while you figure out what to do.

I took Pepcid throughout my pregnancy. I kept cinnamon gum next to the bed though - JUST IN CASE!! :hug99:

I know this probably doesn't make much sense becuase I think they say that dairy adds to the problem, but always keep a container of half and half in my fridge because usually when I drink it, I feel much better. I'm not sure if because its thick and cold it coats things for a while or what, but I swear on it.

I lived on Pepcid AC the last couple months of my pregnancy. It's the only thing that got me through.

I normally take Prilosec (prescription) for acid reflux, but was not allowed to take it during pregnancy. I took Zantac during both pregnancies and did okay for the most part.

I take Zantac everyday and it really helps. On the days when I need a little more, I drink a little Mylanta. The combo seems to conquer the worst of it.

I don't know about Tagamet either, but I lived on Zantac 150 for almost 3 months at the end of the pregnancy. It helped most of the time. I hope you get some relief. It's miserable when you feel that way.

I was told when I was preggo with the twins that Rolaids were not safe...but Tums are OK. Something about the active ingredient in Rolaids is not safe for pregnancy. So I would ask your Dr before you take too many more of them.

I LIVED on Tums with the twins and Grant. With the twins, if I looked at water I got heartburn LOL. It was REALLY bad!! It wasn't quite as bad with Grant but I still took quite a few Tums.
