We went yesterday for our 9 month appointment and the ped (our new one) found that Annalise has a heart murmur and recommended we see a cardiologist. We got in tomorrow and I am curious what to expect for the initial visit. Thanks in advance for any insight. I am trying to go with the idea that it is simply an innocent murmur but the mom in me can't help but worry. Thanks!

Reagan was diagnosed with murmur at birth. They sent her to a cardiologist who did an EKG and asked general health questions. They had me bring her back at 6 months, did another EKG and that was it...we were released from cardiologist care. Her's is called a Still's Murmur...it typically shows up in the toddler years (not usually in newborns, but not the case for her) and it's just an innocent murmur.

    Goodluck with your DD's appt.

Hey! Another 9-monther with a murmur here. My pediatrician didn't notice Caleb's until he was 6 months old. I was (and still am a little) terrified when I heard those words. My mom was with me and she said that I had one when I was a baby as well as several other of her friends' babies. Even the doctor said he's not alarmed, but as you know, that doesn't matter to mommy right? We have the referral to a cardiologist as well but it will take weeks for us to get in there. I don't know what to expect either. When is your appointment? I guess I have no advice, but I just wanted to tell you that you and your little one are in my thoughts and I'm praying that both our babies' murmurs are "innocent" :hug99:

I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

I had to take my DD to a cardiologist because she turned blue at three weeks old (in hindsight, we think she just choked on breastmilk as she was learning to eat). She was about six weeks when we took her.

They did an EKG and then an ultrasound. I fed her right beforehand so that she would be calm. The only thing that really bothered her was having the ultrasound stickies taken off, but our technician was incredible, and he did some massage on pressure points that calmed her right down.

Do you have someone else who can watch your other child(ren) or come with you so you can concentrate on her?

I thought it was wierd too! My current pedi was seeing them for the first time at 6 months when he noticed it. The one before then never said anything! It's frustrating because I don't know if it just happened at that point or if he was born with it (the old pedi saw him from birth) and he just felt it was not worth mentioning. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it went.

I have a friend who will watch my 3 year old but I am not too comfortable leaving one of the girls with someone in case it takes a long time b/c they are ebf and won't take bottles  I would be stressed that I might end up away too long...but after reading your post I think I may see if I can get a sitter to come with me and push Evie around in the stroller while I focus on just Annalise. Thanks!
