At 2 months our docotor heard a heart mummor on lillianah and sent me to cardiologist to get it checked out.

They did EKG and ultra sounds and he siad that sometimes the valve takes longer to close and had not closed yet and that it would over time in the next couple months

the doctor heard the heart mummur again yesterday at 6 month checkup...and is sending us back to cardiologist...anyone have any experience with this?!?!

    im a little nervous

Our Dr. found one in Abby when she was about 8 months old. We did the cardiologist thing too and they told us the same thing yours did. By 12 months, they didn't hear the murmur any longer. I remember I was so upset b/c we switched Dr.'s around the 7 month mark and at the first visit, they found the heart murmur. I was upset that her first pedi hadn't heard it.

I haven't had any experience, but my niece had this and I want to say it was when she was 1. They went to a card and said all was fine so it must have closed. I hope everything is ok, keep us posted.

Jessy had a murmur at birth which they diagnosed as a pulmonary stentosis and she has had yearly monitoring. At her four year card visit her murmur was extra loud so they looked really close during her u/s. Turned out she had a hole in her septal wall from birth and her heart was enlarged already. 4 other visits had not yeilded this. She had a heart cath last nov which determined her septal defect was to large to patch this way and the original pulmonary stentosis was not a problem. She had heart surgery in Jan and is a totally different child.

I don't have experience with a second u/s but the boys had heart murmurs also and we went to a specialist to have it checked out around 2 months also and everything was fine and they told our pedi that we didn't need to do it again for another 6 years.

    Good luck!

Like TabbySue, we went through a open heart surgery. It's a very scary thought .. but in this day and age .. they can do so very much.
Hopefully Lillianna's will fix on it's own .. and most likely it will.

I have a congenital heart murmur myself. Some are completely innocent and don't impact your life at all. So just because they hear a murmur doesn't mean that it is something bad. Don't stress too much!

I actually do the ultrasounds of the heart (called an echocardiogram) and we see all kinds of babies for different types of murmurs. It can be innocent (which it sounds like yours is) or the more serious type which require surgery. Do you remember which "hole" they said had not closed yet? The 2 most common are a PFO (patent foramen ovale) and PDA (patent ductus arteriosus). These are actually holes that every baby is born with (its how the lungs get oxygen in the womb since they aren't being used) and should close soon after birth but for some reason some babies are "stubborn" and like to take longer;)
I will say that the pediatric cardiologist that I work with tells his patients that 90% close on their own by 1 year of age. Some take longer and some require surgery bc they just aren't going to close on their own. Also some Drs will just leave it alone bc if they are not large like probably TabbieSue's daughter's was they are pretty innocent and don't pose any danger to the baby:)
Try to relax and know that if she is healthy and happy that it just probably hasn't closed yet and hopefully will do so by 1 year of age so you can stop seeing specialist and worrying!!!:) *HUGS*

hugs. i know it is hard not to worry, but the odds are overwhelmingly on your side! of course they will be extra careful with a baby and do all the tests, so don't assume the worst just because the tests are being done. i hope it closes on its own or is determined to be minor enough that it doesn't matter.

Thank you for posting this. Its funny how someone else's heartache makes you realize that your not alone .

We have been going through alot of heart issues with our DD - and to be honest its so heard to comprehend that I dont even like to talk about it. Its amazing to hear that we arent alone - and that other moms on here have gone through this and come out ok.

We have been seeing a dr at Sick kids here in Toronto since our DD was born. Her issues started with a Murmor - and on more investigation have been diagnosed as a PDA (the duct that you are talking about not closing) - along with a coarctaiton of the aorta (although we have several conflicting opinions on this diagnosis), pulmonary stenosis (small pulmonary arteries), and a mitrovalve issue.

We have gone through one procedure already - for the coarctation - only to have the conflicting opinions in the Operating Room - so we are currently in a wait and see period along with medication for all the other issues until they feel she is strong enough to go through the other stuff.

My heart really goes out to you - i know the frustration and fear that your probably feeling and perhaps even alot of the its nothing mentality --- (believe me - i was holding onto that pretty tight for a long time)

I really hope that it turns out to be nothing major for you - and if it is - please please please ASK ALOT of questions, and dont be afraid to disagree or stand up for your baby if you think that things arent going the way they should. We have held our cardiologist's feet to the fire over a few things - and no matter what - I am grateful that we do.

You know your baby WAY better than any cardiologist that sees an echo - and spends 3 minutes with the babe.

My heart's with you - literally and figuratively - and i hope that things go well.
