So I have been looking into renting a doppler. The one I want is OB/GYN used. Most hospitals carry it and it is a very nice model. It is about $20 a month to rent it. It can pick up the babies heartbeats as early as 8 weeks. My question is......is it worth the money? With twins is it going to be hard for me to find BOTH heartbeats? Has anyone used one before on twins? Can your Dr. find both heartbeats easy at your appt. with a doppler?

I've never used one, but I do think it may be kind of confusing to use. At my appointments, the doctor always does an ultrasound to see the babies' heartbeats. It seems like it might be kind of hard with two heartbeats, especially when they're so little. You may find one and then that baby moves and you find the same heartbeat again thinking it's the other baby's heartbeat? I think sometimes doctors have a nurse come in with a second doppler, so they make sure to get two separate heartbeats.

Maybe someone else who has actually used one can give you better advice, though.

I know other twin moms have used one, and have found comfort from its use. I chose not to get one for one very simple reason: my OB! Even she felt that the doppler was an unreliable measure. She always did a quick U/S to check their heartbeats.

I just rented one because I had a scare with a double nuchal cord and the doctor told me to be aware of their movements- it just freaks me out to think I'm responsible for making sure they're doing ok. So I thought if I got the doppler I could do my own little NSTs at home. I tried it today for the first time and immediately found both girls' heartbeats no problem at all. I got the one with the digital readout of the heart rate so I just held the doppler to one baby's heart rate for about 15 minutes and it stayed around 145 and then I did it with the other same range. It made me feel so much better. But the one I rented cost 49/mo (because of the digital readout and the recording option.)

Good luck! I rented at Babybeats, btw.

my dr is never sure if he's hearing a different heartbeat on the 2nd try. so I'm not sure how dependable they are. I don't know that it'd be worth it. I'd rather save my $ for diapers and clothes.

I had one and for me, it was well worth it. I was able to find both babies with no problems. One was on my left side and the other was on my right side. It was very comforting to hear their heartbeats

i just picked one by BebeSounds and at 10 weeks i can already hear them. but it was kind of farfetched at the moment that i bought it. because it tells you that you can hear heartbeats at 20 weeks. but i got it and to my surprise we both heard them and my hubby loves it. i got it for him for christmas since he doesn't get to go to all the appt with me to hear them there. i paid $20 bucks and it runs on 9V batteries. It's called the BebeSounds Prenatal Heart Listener. it comes with headphones and a recording cord that you can hook up to your computer to email the heart beats to anyone. there is no need to rent one when you can own one and then give it as a gift to someone else later on. we listen to them every night. helps me know that they are really in there too.
hope this helps. lots of love!

I rented a doppler with my last pg and this pg with the twins. I found a lot of comfort having it, but I've also had 3 m/c's and finding any h/b was a relief. I never had a problem finding a h/b with the twins, but I was only positive I had found both heartbeats on a few occasions. If you are trying to distinguish between the two, I would recommend renting one that tells the heartrate which mine didn't. My doctor never uses a doppler either (only u/s), but he did the same thing with my last pg.

It would be comforting - but I never got one because
my OB can never distinguish between the 2 - he always does
an ultrasound - so I never thought about getting one for here but
now I kinda wish I had!
