I don't know if I am just to worried or if nothing is wrong but I am worried about my sons hearing. I was laying on the floor with the twins and I was whispering Spencer's name and he looked right at me. However, I whispered Chase's name and nothing. I have been noticing things hear and there. It can a minute or so of calling his name for him to look at me. Other times he grunts at me and I will do it back and this will go back and forth for a while. I said something to our old pedi at their last check up but she said just see how it progresses because maybe sometimes he is just involved with what he is doing.

Well I am getting worried something is wrong, so I call his new pedi or should I wait to his next check up? Is anyone else experiencing anything?

    Thanks

It is certainly possible that your one DS is just more "involved" in what he's doing. I SWEAR my one DS ignors me on purpose when I call his name -- but if I say its "ba ba" time -- he ALWAYS "hears" me... lol.

At the same time -- if you are concerned - I wouldn't feel bad calling the new pedi about. From what I know (which isn't all that much) -- the hearing test is pretty quick and painless.

Does your DS react to loud noises? (like a pan dropping on the floor??)

I used a spoon and hit the back of a pan and he did look at me. I will wait till his is more involved and see what he does.

    Thanks

Definitely give the new ped a call, if nothing else, for your peace of mind! Has he had any ear infections? :hug99:

He has had one or two ear infections since he has been born.

Hmmm. Well, it's possible that he could have some lingering fluid on his ears, even though it might not be infected, which could effect his hearing. I would definitely give the ped a call and get his ears checked out just to be sure.

He'll have a 9 month well-baby right? You could wait until then. I worried about Greta's hearing for a while, but she's come around and now responds well and that's eased my mind.

If he reacts to loud noises when he can't see it, like a shout behind his back and he flinches or a pop and reacts I would wait to see the ped. If you make loud noises behind his back and he doesn't react i would call the ped. Like pp said it is quick and easy to test the hearing again. My niece is actually going through the testing right now and we have discovered she has 70% hearing loss. She is 10 months old and they have been doing the tests for the last 6 months. Good luck I hope everything turns out great and he is just busy with what he wants to do.

Ditto to this with ear infections. We had the same issue and just got tubes for both boys last week. The fluid can definitely cause some hearing loss that will come back once the fluid is removed.

But also at that age I did not get consistent looks after calling their names either. It was hit or miss. I would definitely bring it up to the Ped.

our girls failed their hearing screens in the hospital and we ended up at an audiologist a month later for infant hearing screens, under 3-4 months they don't use anestesia but from what I understand for an 8 mo to do the brainstem test that looks at brainwaves at different frequencies (for a nerve loss) they would need to sedate him somehow... but the audiologist did say they do other tests for older babies that involve you and baby in a room and different noises coming from different places and they evaluate the babies response.... you should get it checked out for piece of mind!

Talk to your pedi about it again. My son fell through the cracks and by the time his hearing loss was identified he was completely deaf. It's better to be safe than sorry. It could be any number of things though especially since theres been ear infections.
