I wish Nutrigrain bars were a low mess snack at my house! Mine like to smoosh them in their hands until the fruit filling is all over the place and then smear it on whatever they can get their hands on!

Mine do the same thing with cereal bars!
I also do Teddy grahams, freeze dried fruit, reduced fat nilla wafers, Beech Nut Yogurt nibbles.

Yeah I end up doing mostly string cheese/teddy grahams/goldfish and occasionally animal cookies because they just make a mess with everything else :( They love all the yogurt drops/nibbles etc but they are so pricey and they'd eat the whole bag in one sitting!

Those things are like baby crack. I have to put them on the tray when the kids aren't looking so that I can control how much of them they eat because they are expensive.

Yeah yogurt bites, and basically any other gerber snack, are so pricey...but they do get them about once a week.

We do nutrigrain bars (I hold them, they bite them...otherwise they would smush them), kix (they love the new honey kind), freeze dried fruit (brothers all natural makes these apple ones, they have Mickey Mouse on the bag @ Wal-Mart, and my lo's eat the whole thing...1 and a half apples-they also make pears, strawberry/banana, and peaches), freeze dried corn, goldfish, jammy sammy's (they are expensive too), string cheese

Ditto all the previous snacks...Veggie Stix are a huge hit with mine and aren't that messy. They also love Quaker apple-cinnamon rice cakes but they can be a little messy

I'd also add raisins--those are a huge hit with the girls! Also, bite-size peanut-butter filled crackers (theyarepenny-sized) or cheese filled crackers--I find those at Trader Joe's...

I agree, nutrigrain bars are very messy hear. We found some fruit bars by Newton that our girls like, probably not as healthy but less messy, we give them those occasionally.
    Fruit Crisps

They are crunchier than nutrigrain bars (but not as crunchy as I thought they'd be).

    cut up grapes
    vegetable crackers
red pepper strips (my daughter loves them, my son won't touch them)
cucumber slices (non messy idea, but neither of mine will touch them.)
    raisins/craisins

I do the same thing with the nutri-grain bars and granola bars that a PP mentioned - hold it for them and let them take bites.

strawberries, banana, any type of fruit. We also do cheese and crackers -- I just cut up some Havarti. How about yogurt? Mini bagels with peanut butter or butter. Heck, yesterday I gave DS a piece of toast with butter because he was so hungry (DD was not)..and it wasn't even snack time. He just eats a lot more than she does.

Mine went through a whole bag of yogurt melts for lunch today--you're lucky to have a cup and half of those things in the bag.

Our snacks consist of crackers and bananas these days. Both of which can be a mess. I'll have to take some of your ideas.

I started giving them apple slices, I have one of those wagon wheel things that slices & cores it... they do pretty well eating them. And if they won't finish the slices, I put lemon juice and water on them and store for another snack, so its even nicer when they are already sliced up and ready to eat.

yep, on the cheese, goldfish, cheerios etc.

ok, i take back the nutrigrain bar... they had it for lunch today and it was EVERYWHERE! i think the babies must get on TS in the middle of the night to figure out what they need to do the next day to prove me wrong!

Yeah, sorry about that Joy. Pretty sure my guys PMed your LOs and gave them the scoop. ;) Did they share the part where they can poke their fingers through the crust, extrude the fruit filling, then smear it into their hair? That's a favorite trick in my house. :D

If you make any type of veggie pancake (i use a basic potato pancake recipe but usually do it with sweet potatoes and mixed veggies), that can be a really easy healthy non-messy snack. I use them a lot when we go out and I don't want to keep shoving cheerios and goldfish at them! I can't give them too many, though, because mine are sweet potato addicts and the resulting diapers are not so fun :bad:

Morningstar Farms makes some DELICIOUS veggie cakes. Not only do my boys love them but so do I.

Jennie-O has turkey meatballs that are fabulous. My boys eat these often and I cut them up and put them in everything or just serve them alone as a snack.

The Chicken Shu Mai dumplings from Trader Joes are filled with veggies and taste sinful but are all natural and very healthy. The boys are not always in the mood for this one, just depends on the day.

One of my boys loves the Gerber fruit strips which remind me of a fruit roll up.

goldfish crackers, cheese, apple slices, chopped up oranges, carrot slices, cherrios, wheat puffs cereal, hard boiled eggs, raw broccili with ranch dressing to dip(although more dip gets eaten the broccili), chopped pieces of ham, bread and PB, or just butter, any kids of rice cakes(try melting cheese on them).

mine like most fruits that aren't too slippery. our fave snacks are pirate's booty, and they dont' throw them around cuz they like them so much. i buy the veggie flavored ones cuz they have a little fiber in them. they also love snap pea crisps (as do i!) and they also don't throw those around cuz they like them so much.

we eat a lot of cereal bars (though not nutrigrain cuz of the corn syrup) but i only give small pieces at a time. they also eat a lot of o-type cereals and most any of those snacks made by earth's best.

We have a lot of food allergies to work around, so for morning snack we stick with cereal (Kix, Chex, Cheerios) and sliced or dried fruit. My DS's favorite all-time food, snack or otherwise, is his yogurt drink he gets after nap every day. I put about an oz of pear juice in a cup, then fill the cup halfway (about 4oz) with organic vanilla whole milk yogurt...it's so runny that it is MUCH neater through a straw than with a spoon. He sucks it down in seconds! For my DD with a dairy allergy I ususally give her cut up cold chicken or pasta with feta as a snack...she's pretty neat with a fork though.

It is hard to find different ideas for healthy snacks.... thanks for posting this!

We mostly do cut-up fruit, or cheese, or crackers. Also pretzels, yogurt (which I spoon feed them!), raisons or any other dried fruit, rice crackers (I find these are less messy then traditional crackers, or at least the chunks that break off dont crumble as much). But honestly, most of our snacks are at least moderately messy. Although since I have taught mine to sit at their little table and eat snacks, the mess has gone down significantly!!
