At my OB appointment yesterday, they appeared VERY concerned about the size difference between the head and abdomin of both my boys. Twin A has a bigger head measurement and Twin B has a bigger abdomin.

I'm going to see a specialist tomorrow morning. Words like "vascular problems" and "reverse flow" were mentioned.

Possible c-section tomorrow was mentioned -- I'll be 28 weeks 5 days w/ two very small boys.

Anyone have any idea why the discrepancy is a problem? One of the nurses just said it was "normal growth" and everything got averaged for sizing, but the Dr. didn't act that way. I love my Dr. in general. This was the first time he has been cagey about answering to my satisfaction.

Anyone else get told the individual measurements as well as the overall average?

Thanks! (I love everyone on this forum. We've had so many problems and you are all so supportive. )

Every time I have an ultrasound Baby A's head has measured about 4 weeks ahead. I asked my high risk Dr. about it because I was concerned that something was wrong causing his head to be too big. My Dr was not concerned about the baby's big head. He told me that everything evens out toward the end of the pregnancy. I still worry about it though.

As for the abdomen measurements, I'm not sure. Hope everything goes well for you and your babies!!!

At my u/s today (I'm 29 wks 2 days) my twin a was spot on. Twin b's head was nearly right, his abdomen is the size of a 25 weeker. (he has measured behind his brother since 15 weeks) This combined with the fact his cord blood flow is usually absent end, and has been reverse end points to him having a velamentous cord insertion - his cord has implanted right on the end of the placeta, and he doesn't get the same blood flow as his brother. My babies will be delivered in the next 2 weeks - they have been prepared to deliver them since 28 weeks. If your are having the same issue (although I can't explain why they other bubs would have an enlarged abdomen, sorry) take heart that you have reached a great milestone at 28 weeks, and if they need to be delivered early, chances are the vast magority of babies should do just fine.
It could also be some TTTS they are checking for, but I don't know much about this. Sounds like your dr. is on the ball, and stuff will happen if is needs too.
BTW my babies weights today were
    Baby A - 1.35 kg
    Baby B - 835gms.
As you can see, the cord flow has had a significant impact on my babies sizes. Baby A was measuring 29wks5days. Hope this helps, try and get some sleep tonight and I hope things go well tomorrow and your dr is just overreacting- as all good drs should!

Thanks so much to everyone for the words of encouragement! I had my appt. this morning with the high-risk group. According to them, both babies are the same size -- just small.

Since they have been small from the beginning that's not new, and they are on a good growth curve. So, except for the known heart issues, there is nothing different bad.

The flows look good and no TTTS.

For kymbahlee, good luck with your little ones. I'll be watching the boards for an update!

I got a little scared at my last peri appt as well. One baby's head was measuring about 6 days more than the other one but they were weighing approx. the same. The peri was not concerned because she didn't see any swelling or fluid in the brain. She also asked me if there are "big heads" in our family. I told her that my sister's kids have some pretty big heads, always in the 99th percentile, and she said that could be it. Nothing to be concerned about, just differences in the siblings growing side by side! Good luck to you!
