Lately the boys have taken up banging their heads against things - the floor, the wall, anything, really. They'll even throw their heads back to bang them against the back of the high chairs...repeatedly. At first, it was kinda cute. Now, I'm a bit concerned (of course, b/c I'm a FTM).

    Normal??

I don't know, but I have head banger myself. Mark is constantly doing it while eating...it drives me crazy.

I have one too. She does it quite a bit in her high chair. I was hoping it was just a phase.

I have one too! He does it mostly when in his high chair, banging back or side to side. He had tubes put in his ears last July that fell out... we discovered they were out in Feb and have to wait until May to get an appt to have tubes put back in. Anyway, I have to say that I think the head "banging" has increased these past several weeks and I wonder if he is reacting to the fluid buildup in his ears and how funny it must feel. Anyway, that's just my theory! I don't worry about my DS b/c he laughs while he's doing it and stops when I call his name.

Both my boys do this. Jake will bang his head on his crib, high chair and against walls. I try to ignore it and he usually stops. Every now and then he'll hit his head too hard and will cry. I'm hoping by him feeling that it hurts, he'll stop doing it.

I have head bangers too. I have read that it is something that they do to release frustration. They don't do it as much as they used to, however, if it is true that head banging is supposed to release frustration, then mine were frustrated alot!

I, too, have head-bangers. And I have an older DS who once was also a head-banger. When I was worried about him, I googled it (of course!) and found this on drgreene.com, which made me feel much better  :

"Curiously, one large study of this habit in healthy children found head-bangers to be measurably advanced compared to their peers. If anything, then, head banging in healthy children can be a sign of increased intelligence."

LOL!! This is hilarious...I guess my guys are really advanced then becasue they were quite the head bangers! They would bang the floor, the wall, the crib rail and eaach other ALL THE TIME! Luckily we are getting out of this phase now but boy was it bad and annoying. I even got head bopped on my nose and thought they broke it! OUCH.

Head banging in the high chair? My Alyssa thrusts her entire body in it

Now that I hear so many babies do this, I guess it is normal ^_^

Completely normal... and completely normal for you to be alarmed. What mom wouldn't be?

My son Jackson was especially bad with head-banging and did it from about 13 months to 17 months or so. He doesn't do it much now, but every once in awhile, he will indulge in a moment's revisiting of this little guilty pleasure.

My girls are head bangers too. But I will tell you the older they get the less they do it. Mine have even done it in the driveway and have gotten some nice "bumps" on their heads!
