I know - it sounds like a mommy's dream come true, doesn't it?? But Nathan has started chucking everything that isn't a fruit or veggie. He used to eat everything put in front of him. I am not sure where this new pickeyness has come from. The thing I am worried about is if he is getting enough other stuff - protien, carbs etc. He gets about 16-20 oz of milk per day. Is that enough protien? Where can I get some more carbs? He might take 1-3 bites of pancake, toast etc but the rest is tossed.

Maybe if you are a vegitarian you can help give me the lowdown on other stuff he might like where he can get all of his food groups :)

    Thanks!

Does he like beans, tofu, or eggs? These are all good sources of protein. They have nonfat refried beans which are a hit over here. Or how about an omelette with vegetables or fritatta or blueberry pancakes?

I've tried the blueberries in the pancakes...nope
He used to eat beans, we haven't had any in a while. I will see if he will still eat them. Never tried tofu.
He used to eat eggs...but those are also being tossed lately.

this might just be a phase, I understand that, I just want to be sure he gets all of his stuff, ya know? :D
I suppose there are worse things than eating fruits and veggies! :D:D

    Thanks for your help!!

I almost forgot...how about spinach ravioli's or fried rice (rice mixed with eggs and vegetables)?

No advice on food, but our twins are close in age and my girls are just coming out of doing this SAME thing! It didn't last to long, and they seem to be back to eating better now. I think part of it was a phase, and part was feeding the dog, they new if they threw food the dog would eat it! Will he let YOU feed him anything that isn't fruit/veggies?

Its got to be the age! Liberty is doing the same thing, and she used to be my good eater. I just keep offering it and sooner or later she'll eat it, some days are worse then others.

Do you think it could be a contoll thing? (something I've been thinking about) There getting to the age where they're more independant and want to do everything themselves. Maybe they want to choose what they want to eat. Just a thought. :)

    Spinach balls

these are a huge hit...I am going to guess on quantities
1 pack of frozen spinach thawed and drained
1 cup stuffing mix (I use whole wheat Stouffers) finely chrushed
    1 egg
    1/2c parm cheese
1 tsp minced onions (dried) I think the original recipe calls for scallions

Mix form in balls and bake at 350 for ~20 min

    YUMMY and protein filled

you could try the Mornignstar farms veggie nuggets too...

I don't have that problem with my girls :D -- but in terms of getting carbs & grains, would he eat brown rice if you mixed it with beans or a veggie? Or toast with jam on it? (Does he require his fruits & veggies to LOOK like fruits & veggies, or just to TASTE like them?)

Bea won't eat much meat, but she loves cheese, eggs, and tofu. She will eat plain cubes of tofu. Beans are also a good source of fiber. I'm sure he's getting enough carbs from the fruit and veggies, remember fruit has sugar in it, I wouldn't sweat that. Our kids are bread and cracker lovers, so that's never a problem here.

well, I bought some of the morning star broccoli and chedder ball things. I heard they were good. Those spinach balls look good too!!

I do think (hope) it's just a phase. He has discovered that the dog will eat anything. I mean, I really don't mind the phase...I only want to make sure he's getting enough other stuff.

I did get him to eat cheese and some beef ravioli's today :)

I will try the tofu...never had it. Does it need to be cooked or can you just cut it into cubes?

Here is a great recipe for baked tofu, my girls love it. I use Teriyaki sauce instead of soy sauce so its a little sweeter, and I roll it in sesame seeds (BTW: sesame seed are a great source of calcium)

    Baked tofu *yummy*

ETA: After you make this you can serve it cold, I do it all the time. It makes for a quick and easy lunch or dinner. :)

Bea will eat it just plain, uncooked. I know, weird huh? I will sometimes throw the cubes in vegetable soup.

Hey I am veg (pescoveg), but we still eat carbs in form of bread and rice and stuff and protein in eggs.
The thing you might want to watch is the iron if he completely refuses all meat. Give him a lot of spinach, that makes up for it.
Also, not a common practice and I might risk having social services sent over after posting this, hunger is the best cook. No toddler starves to death because he refuses to eat. I know many (most) moms of our playgroups etc... were obsessed with how much and what each child would eat. I think if you want them to eat you might have to wait til they are hungry and not give them anything else other than what you want them to eat. OK sounds wrong, but for example my son would refuse to eat fish. Since we live mostly on it this was a problem for me. So I would offer him fish first when he was hungriest. If he still refused and really was hungry I would eventually give him something else, but generally being hungry enough was what he needed to get that first bite, which makes him actually realise that food (and fish) is good!!
It is almost 2, I am waiting for my screaming daughter to calm down, so I might not make sense... I apologize!
