Izak still will not eat solids. We have periodically waited a few days here and there and then tried again but still really doesn't want anything to do with them. When we try again he does seem to do a little better but than the next feeding it's back to the same refusing of the food. It's like when he sees that spoon coming he starts to freak out and sometimes he starts to cry even before you pull the bottle out. I called the ped and he said just to give it a few days and then try again - did that. How many times do we have to do that before he is ready???

Has anyone else experienced this with any of your LO's? If so, any advice? Should I try fruits; all we've tried is veggies and he seemed to like green beans the most.

I know that getting them to start on solids at this age is just for practice and really not for the nutrition so I'm comfortable with that but I'm still unsure of what to do at this point.

    TIA!

I would just keep trying, and taking breaks if he is flat out refusing. He's just 5 months, so no rush. Some babies haven't even started solids yet. One day he will surprise you!

I'd just try once a day. If you are consistent with the time of day, he'll get into the routine. We started with rice/oatmeal cereals and did it at breakfast time. You can make it as watery/thick as you want and you won't waste as much. We didn't start until 6 months and even then it took a good 2-3 weeks for them to get good at it. Hang in there!

My DD did not like solids until almost 7 months, but DS liked it right from the beginning(at 6 months). I just kept offering to her, and I was happy if she ate 1/2 teaspoon of veggies or fruit. Now at 9 months, she eats everything. Your guys are still young, so keep trying slowly and don't worry about amount. Any little bite counts. At this age solids are just for practice.

DD did that too for about 2-3 months. i started on solids at about 6-7 months, about 4 adjusted. she was an AWESOME eater. then 2 months ago they got colds that last 2 weeks and she has been refusing ever since. turning her head, shutting her mouth, pushing the spoon away, etc. i threw things like cheerios, pretzels, etc. on the tray and she would eat those, but nothing from a spoon. in the past week she has FINALLY started eating, but she almost turns away every time the spoon goes near her mouth like its habit now. just keep trying, but dont force it, and he'll accept it eventually, though it sure seems like they wont!! they are still young too so dont stress too much :)

i agree you might be too early still. Keep trying not more than 1x per day, there's no rush...

Your LOs are still very young so don´t worry too much. Saying that, however, My DD refused solids until 7-8 months or so. We got her onto the fruit puree, which was hard work, but she then refused the savoury puree. I just presented it every day until she decided to eat it. I found she was more receptive to it when sat up in a chair with me in front of her, rather than in arms. I also changed when I gave the food. For example, I was giving my LOs fruit puree in the mornings which meant that they were starving by lunchtime and wanted the quick fix of a bottle. I decided to change the fruit puree to an afternoon snack and things greatly improved as they werent so hungry for their lunch and more receptive to eating the savoury puree. GL!
