He pooped on the potty- then cried when I praised him for it!

Tonight after taking baths I was putting DDs diaper on. DS kept farting and sqauting down like he was going to poop. He pooped on the floor a week ago and I didnt want a repeat situation so I quickly picked him up and said we're going to poop on the potty.

Sure enough, he pooped on the potty! I was so excited because it was one less diaper to do when he stood up I wiped his bum, showed him the poo and clapped and cheered for him. As soon as he saw it, he started CRYING and turned around and just hugged me LOL

It was the funniest thing. So while my 13 month old might be pooping on the potty he is CLEARLY not ready.

 

Awww :wub: He probably wasn't used to the weird praise, let alone knowing what he was doing in the first place so little man probably got nervous! But hey, one less diaper is one less diaper! I'm sure I would go to any extreme to prevent a 'messy' situation!

 

That's too funny! When he's ready he'll be enjoying the praise for going in the potty

 

That's so funny and cute! 13 months when he first pooped in the potty, that's something to write in his baby book!

 

LOL that's pretty cute! I agree, he probably isn't used to there being any sort of recognition of his pooping. LOL

 

Awwww :hug: Poor little dude. :laughing: Yeah, it sounds like he isn't ready for cheering whenn he poops.

 

Ah, it's hard not to laugh when that happens! Sometimes I will over-praise the kids, and I think it kinda scares them! And they cry, and I try not to laugh! I know, I know, mean mommy!
