I have 1 son on the move. But he only rolls in one direction. Is this more common than I know? I can put anything on the other side- it doesn't matter. My other son is very lazy and CAN roll, but doesn't. TIA.
I never really noticed, but I would think that is very common. Just like using one hand is easier than the other, I think it's probably easier for them to roll one way than the other.
I'm not trying to scare you, but we were told to keep an eye on one of our boys (by our pediatric development doctors) since he only rolled to one side. Sure enough a few days later he could roll both directions, but they said it could be a sign of something more serious. I would just let your doctor know and see what they say.
It can be due to a preference to turn &/or tilt his head - present with torticollis though can be there without any significant issues. You can roll up a big blanket or put pillows along the side he likes to go and see if he will go the other way if he has no other choice.
We had one daughter that did this for about two months. She now rolls both ways, sits up and is starting to pull up. Don't worry but mention it to your pedi if you feel concerned. I'm sure it's fine.
Oh one other thing, our daughter had the flattened head on one side, it was due to preference on being on that side. That was the side she rolled to. As Nancy mentioned, I'd roll up a blanket or towel or something and prop them the other way, that is what our head doc told us to do.
This happend to us with DS1. He had been rolling for months when we realized that he could only roll one way. I FREAKED out and was convinced there was something wrong with him. We debated physical therapy and decided to wait it out. He is totally normal now, although he was on the later side of his motor milestones - didn't crawl until 9 months or walk until 13 months - and he still isn't great at sports.
Well, Oliver just started to roll over (to the left)- he is on the lazy side - and Edmund only rolls to the right. I think it is defintiely a preference. My daughter only rolled on one side and her arm got always trapped under her. Yet, she turned out to be fine. Actually, better than fine. :give_rose: Well I think the time range for walking is somewhere between 12-18 months. So at 13 months is not on thelater side. IMO.
When my dd first started rolling over I joked that she was going to be a race car driver because she only rolled left! She eventually started rolling both ways and now is a running, jumping, climbing fool so I think no worries!
I called the pedi while their normal doc is out the doc who called me back said to wait a month and call her back if he still only goes 1 way. He also thought it was a good idea to 'thwart' him- which I've been trying to do today. He rolled over the Boppy & screamed at it. Guess I have to find something taller.
