He is 3 1/2... why won't he go!

Aidan is 3 1/2 and will go to the bathroom at home, when and only when he is NAKED! As soon as clothes are on, he doesn't go anymore. When i ask him why he didn't go to the potty he tells me "I will go next time" I don't know what else to do!

 

Is he wearing underwear or pull-ups during the day? And by naked do you mean totally naked or just no underpants?

"Naked Naked" he pees in underwear and pull-ups. I just started putting diapers on him again, since nothing is working

 

Well, because he is 3.5 I feel he is old enough to understand, so rather than letting him run around naked I would put underwear on him. I used the thick Gerber brand that you can get at WalMart. I would also use a kitchen timer and when it "dings" that will be his cue to try going to the bathroom. I set my timer for every 20 minutes, but my boys were 2.5 at the time. At 3.5 you should be able to go 45 minutes. I would also use a reward system if you do not have one already in place. Perhaps he can earn a dime for every success and have a dime taken away when he has an accident. I am currently do this with my kids for helping me around the house without groaning. They were very excited on Friday when I told them they had earned enough money for a trip to the dollar store.

 

I'm certainly no expert and really just at the beginning of this journey, but a while back I attempted to start training with Gabe and he insisted on being naked. That wasn't going to work with me, so I just put him back in diapers for a while. We are now trying again and he is fine wearing big boy underwear during the day.

I don't have any real advice, I just wanted to let you know I was in your shoes a couple of months ago.
