Is this unusual? Michael has been counting to 10. He can identify ALL of his letters. Is this unusual for a toddler his age? Maybe I just have a little genius baby?? (One could only hope right?) :yahoo:

Erin will count to 10 also, and she recognizes most of the letters. However, she is 22 months, and I too have thought that this is advanced for a 22 month old. It's sounds like you may have a genius on your hands! Good for you!!

Wow! That's fantastic! I think it's definitely a bit advanced. Just for comparison, my kiddos are 2 years and know about half of their letters and most of their numbers (up to 10, but not always in order). The teacher at the school my kids go to said that they are a little ahead of the others in their class in this area... so you DS son would be waaaaaay ahead!

    Hey there Bridget! :wavey:

My boys are counting to five, singing most of the ABC song, they know a lot of their numbers and letters. Like in the tub we have those foam letters and they can tell me which one is U or W or O..., they see the aisle numbers in the store and can tell me what aisle we're in and what numbers the clock says, they know the color yellow and are fastly learning the other colors, they're talking in sentences. I wouldn't say that this means that are in a genius category. My older son was counting to ten and knew EVERY single trucks name (no joke~trucks like giant excavator!) at 18 months and was also a very early talker and knew his colors, numbers, letters too. Again, I think they are very smart, but wouldn't say it means they are geniuses. All babies develop at different speeds.

It's fun though isn't it??!! Good job Michael!

Heck, my girls don't do that stuff yet. Morgan tried to count every now and again, but not Reagan. But, one thing my girls do know is that when they toot, they say "Poo poo" and grab their diapers and then start sniffing around. LOL!!!! :p It's hilarious!!! I couldn't figure out the sniffing thing for the longest time until I realized that it's prbably b/c when they do poop we sniff to see if there is something there or not! So, I think my girls are advanced...LOL...NOT!!!!

That is great! I think all kids develope at their own pace. Mine were counting to 10 at that age too.

It's amazing what they learn!! Funny story, my DS came and told me what goes into each of our trash bins this morning whjen I was taking them out-- apparently daddy has been teaching him!

"Mamma, paper goes in this green one... leaves and grass go in the brown one and yucky trash goes in the black one!"

    I about fell over!!

Well, first we have the foamy letters for the bathtub. Every night I put the alphabet in order, and we sing the ABCs. Also in the bath, when I rinse their head, I count the number of cups I pour over their heads. (Which is 3) So they started counting to 3. Then DH does "up/downs" with them every morning. He holds their head and their bottom and "bench presses them" and counts to 10. Each baby does this a number of times. The babies also have a cell phone toy, and riding toys that say the numbers and alphabet. Michael always plays these over and over. I also let them go on the computer with my strict supervision. We go to the sesame street site and watch Elmo say the letters. We also go to the fisher price site where they also do their letters and number with the online programs. Of course we are constantly reading alphabet and number books, as well as many others. We do a lot of sign language too. I'm a teacher....maybe this is why. The babies also watch baby einstein, and Sesame street, I think this has helped too.

My girls can't count yet but they are both advanced in speech and eye hand cooridination. Jazzy told Jessy this morning "Essy come sit down shoes" which equals Jessy come sit down and get your shoes on. Counting is way cool though.
