I tried to get my 3 kids pictures done yesterday and it was a disaster. My dd always cries, and yesterday was no exception. The boys are so good, but she is terrible and I don't want to to do the pictures without her all the time. I am so disappointed. Any suggestions?

We gave up on having professional pics done for a while. Every time we would go, Sofia would get upset and the picture would turn out terrible. We might try again in a few months, but I just want to make sure I don't waste any money.

I actually am a photographer and come to peoples houses and setup a studio in their living room. You'll never believe how relieved some parents are and the children are in their own environment. They tend to want to help me with all my "stuff" and are usually clueless that their pics are being taken as long as mom is nearby. They can change clothes, grab a snack, or play with toys they are familiar with. If you are close to Kentucky, I'll happily drive to take pics, if your on the other side of the globe, see if you can find someone who will do a home visit. That may be the key to getting your sweet gyrl in the picture.

Mine have done well with prof. pictures so far. Usually I try to schedule them in the morning like 10 or 10:30 when they're happy and make sure to bring a snack with me. I also bring something to bribe them with like fruit snacks. Also, I always go somewhere like Sears, etc. (except a few times for special portraits) that doesn't charge you if it doesn't go well and that has photographers who are used to small kids and work fast!

Try to get the 1st appt of the morning, so the studio isn't behind

Take a snack to keep them happy. Cheerios and goldfish work best.

Go in with an "oh well, if it works, it works" attitude.

If all else fails, drape a cream or white sheet over the back of the couch and take your own pics. Have dh toss mini marshmallows to them while you snap the pics.

When the boys were 18 months, I took them for Holiday pics, there was a family in front of me with 2 1/2 year old twin boys. The mom told me that it was the first time they were ever good! And the next year, was the first "easy" time taking pics. I generally take them to a place called Sadie's Photograpy Studio. It has about 6 themed rooms, and the kids pretty much play in the room while they take the pics. Although now that mine are getting older, they do pose them a bit.

I also go for the first appointment of the day.

I have a friend who is an aspiring photographer as we invited her to our house for our one year pictures. It was great as they were able to play in a familiar place and my friend could snap the pics. It was so easy and we got some great pictures.

Having someone else snap the pictures is also nice, my DH and I were able to fuss with keeping them in the shot. So maybe just have a friend over to snap the pics while you fuss with keeping them happy and in the picture.

    I like the in-home suggestion.

I used to have a place that came to me when I had my first two .It was great to use their toys as props, it made it extra special nad they did really well at home.
