my wee girl is four and she won't poo on her potty.
yesterday she was lying on the sofa watching television and i could see a HUGE light brown stain edging through her panties. it smelled awful too lol. she just won't get the hang of potty training and will happily sit in a corner doing a poo with her panties on. the other problem is the eggy smell which takes your breath away. her constant farting is a problem when we're out in public. she must have a bowel problem. i've thrown away tons of panties.
other times she cries with pain, keeping it held in, trying different positions, squatting, her legs apart, laid down, on a chair, her bum in the air but when she finally goes its even worse the amount and the smell.
another day we were at grans and she was sitting playing with her barbies. i'd asked her if she needed her potty but she said "noo poo mummy" she was acting wierd, very quiet and she kept putting her hands under her bum, she was very fidgety. then while we were talking she farted really loudly and the eggy smell came back she said "oops poopoo mummy". i was horrified and refused to take her back to grans or nursery the next week. i don't know whether to put ther back in nappies or not. i never had a problem with my other three children, but this is my first wee girl. help please?

I have not personally experienced this, but have heard about it. She MAY be lactose intolerant. Sometimes when a child has a painful stool they will remember and keep holding it in, because they are afraid. This is a vicious cycle. The reason I think of a dairy intolerance is it sounds (IMO) like she is having a combination problem of being constipated and having diarhea or loose stool. I would try a couple of different things. I would try to cut out all dairy products for about a week and see if she improves any. I would also try looking into a natural stool softner. Try getting her on a set schedule, for instance at (everyday) say 9am take stool softner and eat breakfast. Go to bathroom at 11am and try for a bm. Try again every 1/3 to 1 hr.

IMO, I would try to talk to her and tell her that this is medicine so that it won't hurt when you have to go potty. If you can get her on a set schedule you can train your body to have to go to the bathroom everyday at around the same time. HTH.

I agree that she probably needs a stool softener. She may have fears of pooping in the potty or a stomach problem. I would definitely ask her pedi about it. In the mean time I would take her with you everytime you go to show her its okay. Maybe you could put her potty in a quite corner or leave the room when she is going.
