Having a lot of accidents

Ainsley has been having an accident every day lately. I'm trying to figure out if it's related to being tired or something, but I can't quite pinpoint it. She's prone to accidents anyway, but more like once a week, not every day, sometimes twice. Some are on the way to the bathroom. I think she has trouble stopping what she is doing to go. It's really frustrating since many of them have been out in public. Help!

Okay, first I totally  at your gender.

I dont have much experience with the accidents yet, but I am wondering if you try and head it off before it happens. Like at home set a timer for you to get her to the potty. As far as being out, maybe just being a little more pro active about offering for her to go potty.

I do ask her if she needs to go, perhaps I should insist, but then we get into the battle of the wills thing. Arrggg...

Yeah I thought setting my gender was kind of silly so nyah, I'm not going to tell!

She doesn't have any other symptoms of a UTI, does she? Frequency and inability to control the bladder can be signs of a UTI. I just wonder since you said it has just started happening if this could be the reason for it.

I was going to suggest a timer, too, that you set every hour. For some reason, it helped circumvent the battle of wills here (not that we don't get into a battle of wills ever  ) -- after all, it was the timer telling Nadia when to go to the bathroom, not me.

Tell her that you understand it's hard to stop playing and having fun in order to potty, but she's the ONLY ONE THAT KNOWS when she has to go and you expect that she'll do the right thing.

Then reward her (small rewards) when she does it. You almost have to go back to retraining a little bit. We've gone through phases as well!!

Maybe it's because we've had so many busy days with it being summer and finally nice enough to do stuff. Yeah, looks like I might have to do some retraining. I don't think it's a UTI, she says she doesn't hurt or anything, no fever.

We've had a bit of that recently with Amy. She doesn't have a full-on accident every day (though it's a few times a week), but will often wet her panties on her way to the bathroom or while pulling them down. It seems to be a combination of waiting too long and then not waiting quite long enough. :umm:

I don't insist that they go potty before we leave the house (because I HATE the battle of wills), but I do suggest. Sometimes I'll remind them of where we're going and how it might be difficult to get to a bathroom quickly -- or, if I forget to bring an extra set of clothes (which does happen), I'll remind them while we're near a bathroom that it would behoove them to use it.

For the accidents at home, I just clean them up. It's annoying, but she's pretty cooperative about it at least -- she even makes an effort to pee on the hardwood floor rather than on the rug.

Sarah was having the opposite problem last week -- she was going potty every 10 minutes. I did have her tested for a UTI, and it was negative. So I think it was some combination of constipation (which can apparently irritate the urinary tract) and paranoia about having an accident.
