Nope, nor do I have plans to any time soon. I do not want to have to cut it out of their hair or pull it off their clothes or find it stuck to my butt.

No gum here either. Even at 4 1/2 I don't want to have to deal with it.

I think my MIL has given the kids gum, but I haven't and don't plan to for awhile. It just seems like it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Not yet. My 5 yr old still swallows hers! Heck, even my 9 yr old forgets and swallows his sometimes!

One of my two chews gum but I can't remember when I started letting him. The other swallows it so I don't give it to him. I've never had a problem with it being a mess, getting stuck anywhere, etc. But the one who chews it is my 'neat freak' so that could be why! My only issue with him chewing gum is he usually only wants to chew it until the flavor is gone which isn't very long.

Mine do at 3, no issues, occasionally they swallow it but I have taught them that when they are finished with it, they can give it to me or throw it away and that's what they do.

The girls grandpa gives them gum occasionally. Willow chews it for a second and then swallows or spits it out but Azalea will chew it for quite awhile, and she never swallows it. So far they haven't had any gum messes (thankfully...I was nervous at first that it would get in their hair, car seats, etc.)

No. Even at 5, mine have still not had gum & I don't plan to give it to them anytime soon. I guess I have just never felt a need for them to have it. :pardon:

No at almost 4 and won't anytime in the near future. Same with soda; it will be a looooong time before I introduce that to them.

Not happening, lol. I never use it, I don't really see the point of it, so they can try it when they're teens or something, lol!

Just wondering why you would like to give 3year old gum? I am chewing gum to kill my appetite. Not sure I want that for my two.

mine wanted gum because I chew gum all the time...from about 3.5 till about 4.5 they'd just swallow it so they didn't get it often...now they chew it for a while before asking to throw it out...and I've never had it stuck to anything (although I only buy sugarless gum)...and no bubble gum...just mint gum usually

No way, and not any time soon. Although, of course, my MIL has given them gum.

Another reason for no gum for us is that I am trying to avoid giving them any artificial sweeteners, which leaves out almost all gum these days (other than bubble gum).

I bought some mint gum during the first trimester and was disappointed to see that it wasn't a sugared gum. I can't find ANY that has sugar anymore so I've stopped chewing it.

I haven't given mine gum yet & have no idea when I will.

I don't think we have any here with sugar any more except for bubblegum. I thought in the States you guys still had some of the Wrigley gums with sugar but now I see that they contain sugar and aspartame. Wow, there really are no more sugar gums!!

I think bubble yum might have sugar in some types and maybe bubble tape. The girls got him occasionally from like 3.5-5. I let jessy have it when she wants it because she will chew it till I make her spit it out. I chew him after almost every meal. Jazz tends to swallow hers still and is very picky about the flavor

I sing and have always used gum as a means to moisten my mouth when I'm on the way to an event or something. Plus I'm a gum chewer. Never really had anything to do with my appetite, doesn't affect theirs either. It's just one of those things that when they said "Mommy can I have some" I said "sure" and let them try it. Just isn't a big deal. And I ALWAYS have gum and they know it. Usually it lasts the length of a car ride and then they give it to me when we get to our destination, done and done.

I have given my girls tiny pieces of a stick of big red :) They are super curious about it since I chew it all of the time. It does seem silly to give it to a smaller child and actually expect them to chew it

Yes, all of my boys have had gum. One of my twins swallow it twice so he no longer gets it. They don't get it often. The dentist recommended it for my oldest DS due to the acidity of his saliva. She said gum can help prevent cavities in people and it has worked really well for him.

I still remember when I was a small child (maybe 4?) and my mom gave me some gum which ended up in my hair. Down near the roots. It was probably Hubba Bubba or something back then, and whatever it was it would NOT come out of my hair. So my mom had to cut a patch of my hair out, all the way down to the roots. I still remember the embarrassment of being 4 years old with a bald spot  I'm not saying I won't ever give my boys a small piece of gum. But if I do it will only be when I can watch them like a hawk. And I fully expect it to be about as comforting for me as the dum dum lollipops we gave them on the drive to the beach. They may have helped sooth the boys but I was a nervous wreck when I realized how quickly those lollipop sticks get soggy with saliva and then break off from the lollipop making them choking hazards. After a couple of those we put the lollipops away and I bought Twizzlers for any future bribing in the van.

My boys have not had gum and if I had my way they wouldn't have had candy either but that didn't go over too well. It's just something they don't "need" and not a mess I wanna clean up.

I am a gum-a-holic (I don't buy gum very often because most of it is usually gone by the end of the first day which probably isn't a good thing), but I have managed not to let the boys have any gum. No one has given them any either. My DH is not into letting them chew gum for a while anyhow, so there there are no plans to let them any time soon.

Mine have both had gum and love to chew gum. They swallowed it some at first, but never do now. They give it me when they are done and have never had a mess so far with it. Usually only chew it on longer car rides and spit it out when they get out of the car.

Even Bubble Yum has aspartame in it. It's terrible. I like a good mint gum while I'm out and not able to brush my teeth. But NOTHING has plain sugar or fruit sugars as the sweetener.

My two have had gum on occasion. It's been mostly if they have been given a lollipop with gum as the center. I ask them to spit it out fairly quickly. They have on occasion found DH's stash of gum in his side table. Only once did I find it on the carpet. It was super simple to get up.
