My girls are still tiny; just about 5 lbs. We have that great Ocean Wonders swing that they really like, but even on the lowest swing setting, the thing practically jettisons them out the sides. They just don't weigh enough to hold it down right. Usually I just push it manually, but the other day, one wanted to nurse and the other was happy in the swing, so I was looking around for something to put in the swing with her to weigh it down. The only soft, heavy thing I found quickly was a grapefruit from the fruitbowl.

So today the in laws came over to visit the babies, and I'd forgotten about the grapefruit. Grandma took a look at the swing and kinda shrieked at me: "Do grapefruits taste better if you swing them??"

We were all cracking up, and I couldn't catch my breath to explain WHY it was in there! Grandpa kept cracking jokes about my little "Citrus Triplet" ..It was so funny!

I had a reasonable explanation! haha Just had to share!

Sara, that is HILARIOUS! (I can't believe your girls are already more than a month; i remember when they were born!)

maybe that ones nickname will be 'grapefruit' (or pamplemousse, which is grapefruit in french and is such a fun word to say!)

When my twins were just born, I put BOTH of them in the swing at the same time to weigh it down! They quickly became to big, but still did not weigh enough, so I would put a heavy blanket in the swing, and tuck it in, but let it hang off the sides a bit- this slows the swing down, and the less you let hang out, the faster it will go.

[IMG] Pamplemousse the citrus triplet! I love it! My Sean didn't fit in the swing snugly at that age so we packed him in with blankets (plus it kept his Royal Frozen-ess warm). One day my MIL came over and asked why we were swinging a pile of blankets. [IMG]

    Thx for the laugh!

I did the blanket trick too. Someone crocheted/knitted us these beautiful heavy blankets. I'd put those on the swing to slow it down. Worked great!

it is hard to believe that your girls are over a month - it just seems like yesterday that they were born!!! mine will be 3 weeks old tomorrow I can't believe it!! I never thought about putting something in the swing to slow it down - I just put the swing back into their room - now I am going to bring it back out here and use it!! thanks!!
