so ds has had a fever the last 2 days. last night it was up to 102.5 & i noticed little tiny red marks on his feet. today, the rash is on his hands & he's running a fever again, but not quite as high. he also won't eat his formula but he'll eat stage 2 stuff. the nurse said maybe hand/foot/mouth but there isn't anything in his mouth. both twins had a cold last week but seemed to pretty much be over it. needless to say, i made a doc appt for this afternoon, but was wondering if anyone else had experienced a rash like this? it's not raised & it's very small pin-prick looking red dots. tia!

It sounds like hand, foot, mouth disease. My oldest got it once, but very minor. She only had 1 or 2 sores in her mouth, it was hard to tell. Her hand and feet had much more spots. Once the rash is there it's not contagious anymore. Keep him hydrated. If the sores in his mouth start, he might not drink and that's the worst thing about this virus.

Sounds like hand, foot & mouth. My kids had it years ago. Miserable for them, poor baby. Hope he feels better soon.

Ditto on the Hand Foot and Mouth. We have never had it, luckily. Hope he is feeling better soon.

well, we went to the doc & of course when i picked him up from daycare, he didn't have a fever anymore, but the rash had moved further up his arms & legs. the doc said it's just a viral thing & that it's kind of like a heat rash (from fever). he checked his ears & mouth- no ear infection & no spots in his mouth. the perplexing part is that he doesn't want to drink much formula during the day (he drinks a full one in the morning & then again in the late afternoon), but he'll eat solids & drink pedialyte! so the doc says he's probably just not wanting that much formula anymore & wants "real" food! so we're going to start transitioning into more table food/homemade babyfood. i was concerned about dropping to 18-20oz of formula, but the doc said it's fine- at the rate the little bugger is growing he should be good with less formula & more food (he was 4/5 at birth & is now 22lbs!). oh, and this morning- no fever & no rash & he's acting more like himself but now he's used to being held all the time!

Thank goodness it wasn't hand/foot/mouth. My girls, especially Amber, have often gotten those little viral rashes following bouts of fever, but they've never gotten it in the form you described.

Glad to hear it wasn't HFM. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Glad to hear it wasn't HFM, but I do want to let you know this.

Last August, DD was throwing up all day. I literally lost count of how many times she threw up. Even a single drop of fluid. She had a low fever, but nothing horrible. My ped finally told me to take her to the ER since she wouldn't stop throwing up. We get there and she feels like she is burning up but her temp is 99. The took it a few time b/c she felt a lot warmer than that.

Doc came in and looked her over. He asked if she complained about a sore throat. I told him no, not at all. She had a rash though and it was small red dots all over. It ended up being strep throat. They swabbed her and it came back positive. I would of never guessed. I too had it in March but it was on my tongue, not throat (that was ugly too). So, if it doesn't go away, you may want to have it checked again!!
