Has this happened to your twins teeth?

My girls got their two bottom teeth about 2 or 3 months ago, they came in fine. Then about a month ago their top two teeth started coming in. I was worried because it looked like their bottom teeth were in front of their top teeth, like an underbite. Now Azalea has her top two teeth almost all the way in and they are still behind her bottom teeth. It looks very odd when she bites down. Willow only has 1 top tooth in but hers are the same way, top tooth behind the bottom teeth. The people I've asked said this did not happen to their kids  I'm just worried that as more teeth come in they will have trouble eating. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know if it will fix itself or if they might need some kind of correction?

It's probably best to take your children to see a dentist. They probably won't be able to do anything at this point because they are so young and they will be getting a lot more teeth, but at least they can tell you what the possible treatments may be. I believe that if the top teeth haven't fully come in, they can still "move." In other words, their position is not yet permanent. I still advise you to take them to see a dentist because they will be able to address any concerns you may have. I'm sure this has happened to many children. :)

i have an underbite and the dentists and orthodontists started messing with my teeth/jaw (its a jaw issue, now a teeth issue btw) when i was in 2nd grade. my mom and dad had several other kids with normal teeth and then one of my sisters was born and had the exact same thing as me. my mom decided to leave her be til she asked for help and by 12 y/o her jaw/teeth fixed themselves. i had 3 years of them messing with my teeth- rubberbands, spacers, retainers, etc and it still is an underbite and was told the only way to fix it is surgery where they break my jaw and realign it. my mom feels guilty and feels like if they had left mine alone maybe they would have straightened out themselves. DD looks like she may have an underbite too, but im not gonna worry about it. ask your ped. but there isnt anything a dentist or ortho could do right now anyway. gluck and i hope it fixes itself!!

I agree - I'd take them to a pediatric dentist just to get a professional opinion. My boys' teeth didn't come in like that, but I am sure it has happened many times before. It's great that you are so observant and have caught this so early on!

I know a gal who had the jaw breaking treatment. Her mother did not get her any dental treatments for the underbite and felt guilt for "not doing enough". I doubt that not doing anything is more successful than attempting to treat the problem with less invasive techniques. The breaking and healing process is rough so anything that could be done to prevent that would be a great idea.

I think it's a good idea to see a pediatric dentist to evaluate the severity of the problem and give you some guidance on the current treatment options (if there are any).

One of my girls has an underbite. It almost seems like she gave it to her self by continually putting her bottom jaw forward because her teeth didn't come in that way. Her sister is ID and she does not have an underbite. I asked the pedi about it and she said there's nothing that can be done until she's older.

You will feel better if you get a professioal opinion from a ped. dentist. Even if there isn't anything they can do right now, it wil be a relief for you to discuss your concerns and get a timeline of what can be done and when. Good luck!

I had that and BOTH of my girls have it too, I also have a sister (same dad, different moms) who had an underbite too. My sister had her jaw broken & realigned & it looked like it was an AWFUL recovery!! I got braces & a retainer and now my bottom teeth are under my top teeth. I am going in to the pedi in a few weeks and am going to ask for a referral for a dentist there, but I agree with everyone else & say it's something you'll have to deal with when they're older, IF they still have an underbite. Hopefully it will correct itself in both of our cases :)
