I want to learn how to make my own babyfood. My Twinfants just started on cereal. I saw this kit at Diapers.com for $25 wondering if it is worth the money?

I personally wouldn't waste the money on it. All you really need is a blender, some cheap ice cube trays from the dollar store, and the wholesomebabyfood.com website! I made the twins baby food. I really enjoyed it!

I did buy it, mainly because I wanted specific instructions for how long to steam each fruit/vegetable and it came with covered trays. Wholesomebabyfood.com is very helpful, and I use that as well. If you already have a good idea about steaming/baking times, then I would suggest just using the website.

I agree with Becky. Did the same thing she did and also think it would be a waste of money to purchase that kit. You can get all the helpful details you need from the wholesome baby food site and be good to go ^_^

Thanks for your input! Can yall reccommend a good puree machine to use?

A food processor is the best bet, they come in a lot of sizes. With the twins, I'm trying to do a lot of batch cooking, so my big cuisinart works well. However, an inexpensive smaller model would work just as well.

I've heard people use the Magic Bullet too. I have one, but haven't tried it.

Another option is a food mill. A little more elbow grease, but probably more affordable.

I got just the FreshBaby covered trays from amazon.com, a much better deal than buying the entire kit. I like them because they are covered.

I also use both a food mill (good for peas & other foods with indigestible husks when your little ones are really small), & a cuisinart mini foodprep (a 3 cup size food processor). A friend bought me Annabel Karmel's book "First Meals", which is quite good, especially for ideas once your little ones have hit the 12m mark. I have a regular size food processor which I use for big batches, but the miniprep is great for things that you need to do fresh like avocado, papaya, bananas etc. It was $40 online (from amazon).

    Happy pureeing!

I bought some books..BUT I really found the website helpful (wholesome baby food) the best!!

I don't think I've even cracked open the books...I bought the silacone trays and couldn't stand them! The cheap icecube trays are perfect...run under hot water (after tipping upside down) and that helps the cubes pop out.

we have started giving them vitimin supplements though because we make our own cereal which isn't iron fortified, and the boys really don't like egg yolks (per our pediatritian)...just an fyi

I have several "chopping" devices...including an electronic food mill...waste of money, IMO...I have used nothing but my blender...it's worked out perfect....and I just LOVE making my own food, I feel so good about it, and it's really easy...I also make food in batches...takes me a couple of hours over the weekend and we are all set for about 6wks.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...
    Good luck!

I did buy the hand mill... yep, I feel I wasted money, probably used it 4 times.

I used my generic Magic Bullet - its good for little things... but to get everything to blend up nicely you have to have enough water/liquid to get things moving.

what I really liked using was the blender - and I'd gotten a drinks blender a while back that has a spout on the front... when the purees were thin enough it was nice to just run the ice-cube tray under it and get them all filled up! one thing I liked about the blender was that mine has a stick that you can put in and move the food down towards the blades... the stick came with it so that it will stop before you hit the blades. anyway, it was the easiest. And yes, I made big batches and then just froze in icecubes and put in ziplocks and marked on the front with marker what it was inside.
